How can I get my g/f to watch martial arts films?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am a big fan of martial arts and martial arts film and there are loads that I want to watch - Once upon a time in China, Kung fu hustle, Iron monkey etc. etc. But my g/f won't watch them, and she complains if I watch films by my self.

What can I do?

not much you can do. hopefully one day she will realize that there will be times where you just do and enjoy things by yourself.

my wife doesn't care for them either. if one comes on or i feel like watching one, she'll find something else to do that she likes.

There is also the problem that she knows about my similarity to maki in choice of women (Asian) and doesn't like me watching anything with Ziyi Zhang in it.

Watch the movies by yourself or with your boys. Find other things to do with your girl.

You can't force someone to enjoy something you like. You can ask her to give it a chance and be a little more open minded, but my guess is that will be met with resistance and ultimately fail in which case you could

A) Tune her out when she is complaining.
B) Compromise and agree to watch her girly chick flicks (leave your man card at the door).
C) Dump her for a girl who is equally fond of Kung Fu movies as you (chances are she would be way cooler than your current gf).

My wife enjoyed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Hero and House of Flying Daggers. Try getting her into those since they're more artsy and story-centered. Then if that works go from there.

Just trade off with a few chick flicks. She wont pay attention to them anyways. Shes seen them a thousand times, and you can... well, make a move.

your girlfriend has control of what you do when shes not around? (since she complains about it and it's affecting you to the point of creating this thread, yes she has control)

sounds like the problem isn't martial arts movies.

Tried that, she hated hero but liked the other two.

I`m obviously the odd-man out here, but (IMHO) most (key word) kung fu movies are absolutely horrible and if your gf`s tastes are even remotely similar to mine she simply thinks those kinda of movies are very, very, very tacky and childish.

I remember seeing Iron Monkey, Kung Fu Hustle, Kung Pow, and a handful of other movies like that when I was 11-14 yrs old in theaters with my friends and within 10 minutes I`d be trying to get us to leave to get our money back because of how bad they were (again, IMHO).
