I hate it and always have but I keep seeing those damn Sam Adams commercials and they all just look so tasty. So does that new Bud Light Lime. I've just never really liked the taste of ANY beer though.
Is there anything I can do to make myself like it? |

Eventually I found one that I liked and then from there it grew on me. I've found though that if you don't like beer, don't try what everyone else drinks because most of it, Bud, Coors, Heineken, is really just watered down and bland. Sam Adams is good so out of all the "popular" beers, I only drink that, unless I'm in a cheap mood at a restaurant in which I'll break down and order a Coors Light. A regular place I go to here has it really cheap.
But generally I drink Bass, Sam Adams, Hoogaarden (great Belgien White Ale), Smithwick, and for some reason MGD and other Miller products don't bother me...except for Miller Chill (lime and salt)..gross. I would imagine that Bud Lime is the same. So between that and Sam Adams, go Sam Adams. Especially since they have like 18 different kinds, you may find one you like.
Oh and Corona, I'll drink that.

Oh and Corona, I'll drink that. | Well, the beers I have tried so far and had no success with are: Budweiser (and Bud Light for that matter), Heineken, Busch Light, Miller Light, Balashi, Yeungling (sp?), Chuck's Cider, Amstel Bright, Corona w/ a lime, and Guinness. I've probably had a few others but I can't remember them all. Also for the record I have tried can, bottle, and tap.
It's just that beer taste that all beer has that I can't get over and wish I could. |

Guiness, Bellhavens, Some scottish kind ing a Brown and tan can, and any stout at one of the many local breweries on nitro tap...all of them make me very happy.
Any pale ale, india pale ale, budwieser, amber, and all the rest are not for me. Porters are not good IMO, but not as horrible as the others.

It's just that beer taste that all beer has that I can't get over and wish I could. | It's just an acquired taste that either you like eventually or you don't. I know it took me a while though but for some reason I was determined. But I don't like all beer in general. My brother-inlaw gave me one (I don't remember the name) recently that I spit out immediately. Don't feel like you have to like it.
You might have to find something middle of the road. Most of those you mentioned are really light beers and then Guinness is in the whole other direction.
I generally like tap beer more than bottle and forget about cans. The aluminum just does something to the taste.

With the beer you listed; after a few drinks, they start to taste like apple juice. |

I'd start with the basic "fancy" beers: Czech darks like Velko, Irish beers like Guinness and Kilkenny, British ales, German/Belgian wheat beers like Franziskaner and Hoegaarden.. you'll get the hang of it.

From there I tried various Budweisers, Stella Artois and a hefeweizen (sp?) that I never got the name of and didn't like any of those. Finally I tried Guinness and really liked that, and a friend gave me a 6 pack of Miller High Life and that tasted pretty good to me, so I think I've established my expensive beer (Guinness) and my cheap beer (Miller). I'm still much more of a liquor person, but I'd like to at least keep on trying new beers just to see what's out there.

I second the idea of starting with cider. It's a good "gateway" drink that'll give you some of the flavors of beer while presenting them in a sweeter, easier to palate form.
My girlfriend loves Hornsby's draft cider and by drinking it she's started to appreciate wheat beers and some pale ales. With time I hope we'll someday share a taste for stouts.

Sooner or later you'll hit on something that really does it for you.
My personal favorite is Samuel Smith from England (the Old Brewery Pale Ale and the Oatmeal Stout). Comes in the bigger bottles and is pricey. If it's fresh, it's some of the finest beer in a bottle.

Don't keep it in your mouth for too long. It becomes really bitter after a few seconds. Hold it in for the right amount of time.

I understand liking beer, it's almost like unsweetened tea. It's nice to drink something that isn't water that isn't loaded with sugar sometimes. But I think it's a taste acquired where you "like" it because you know it will make you drunk if you drink enough of them.

I only drink one or two at a time so I'm not going to get drunk off of it. For me it's just the chance to drink something different tasting that's not water, iced tea, juice, or soda.

I started drinking by drinking the Australian beer VB. (Victoria bitter). It's got this horrible metal aftertaste that refuses to go away until one of the following conditions are satisfied:
1. You have another mouthful (gives 5 seconds relief from the aftertase)
2. You have become sufficiently drunk not to care.
I can't begin to guess how many Australians like me started on VB and now can't stand it. But then I brew my own stouts now. |
