Question How can we get a message to pop up when you log onto Windows

Sign in to disble this ad
We need something that will tell everyone that anything they use on the computer is "private property" and can't be shared/distributed, etc. for legal reasons. (we work with law enforcement data)

1. How can we get a pop up message for this for when you log in (and even better).... 2. have it come up every time even if you have no password/login?

We want the message on all machines, sensitive data or not. Some have this data and require a password, some have no data and require NO password, but we still want the message on there.

Popups are ignored. If it is that important, have them sign something and keep it on file.

No username.
No password.
No access to anything.

lowsound: Obviously someone has too much time, and really doesn't know the answer to the question.

Longhair: Everyone signs a waiver, but the legal guys apparently want this pop up as well to cover some other bases.

What is the correct answer then for saying that I have too much time and don't know the answer?

If everybody signs a waver, there is no need for a popup to cover other bases because they would be added to the waver as needed. That is of course if the legal department isn't like their computer department

Google search. It's a registry hack/setting. Too many steps to post here. But it's all over the internets.

I just read that again.

We deal with sensitive data, but don't require passwords.

Totally sorry, meant to quote the other guy, not meant for you. Yours was useful info. Now fixed.

Those google links I sent are how it's done. If you are on a domain it is easier to make it a login feature. If there isn't a password however you will have to do the registry hack/change outlined when you search for each machine involved.

Why would you have sensitive data available without a log in?

Ah... ignorance... how lovely! I really advise you to pick up some very rudimentary IT knowledge before you proceed much farther in your chosen job.

Why would sensitive data be on some machines and not a server?

Stickies on the monitors? Play the reminder over the office sound system every 10-15 minutes?

Blah blah, ACCESS to sensitive data is on some machines. Our secretary just emails people about office supplies and surfs the internet with no access to our servers. Developers WORK with the data at all times. We still want the message(s) on both. That specific enough?

It seems hard for computer people to answer a simple question without knowing why. You all could at least ASK why first if you must know.

Anyway, thanks to a couple for showing that registry edit. Looks like it's the right thing for us.

I already feel terrible for whoever's "sensitive data" your housing... it's in terrible danger if your security model is as bad as it sounds.

I think your problem could be resolved with an upgrade of your current keyboard system. Judging from the posts, I think this is exactly what your office needs.
