Reminds me of a friend that worked at a hot dog factory and said that you would never eat a hot dog again if you saw how there were made. In this case it looks like play-dough that little kids used to eat when there mothers weren't looking......Great link ........................

So, can you just buy a tube of the goop and prepare it yourself?

"Parts is Parts!"

I'm not 100% sure I buy his entire explanation of the process, but I'm sure whatever is really is is certainly bad enough.

Note source.

Yep, my nose for BS is infallible.

Snopes provides a great service; run all your strange stories by their database.

I went on a tour of a hot dog and cold cuts plant in Boston on a school field trip. I had no problem scarfing down a couple of hot dogs after the tour. BTW: I didn't see any eyeballs or nads or any other questionable items ground up and added to the pot. We got to see the entire process from start to finish as well. We were told that certain pieces parts were reserved for use in pet food because they were not considered fit for human consumption.

Did you check the second link?

The way I see it, meats meat, and honestly any part of the butchering process would make most of us feel sick to our stomachs.

I always go by my motto "If it doesn't make me sick, I'll eat it."

Even after seeing this, I'd still take a mechanically separated chicken patty over a bit of liver anyday, though its not the liver directly that makes me sick, its the taste...
YECH!!!!

Adding sauteed onions in butter to the liver helps (a little).

Not NEARLY enough.

In my family, I've always been known as "the one" who will eat anything. So knowing this, Grandpa really wanted me to try his favorite, liver and onions. Eventually the day came when my Grandma did up a batch for just us. She made the rest of the family something else(should have been my first tip-off) but I still went in there rearing to go on some L&O.

I took one bite sitting at the table with half of my immediate family watching. Could not get it down for the life of me, and after a minute or so of truly valiant effort, politely yarfed it into my napkin. Upon re-assurance from my Grandpa, who said it gets better the more you eat, I actually managed to swallow a piece. For a moment. My body pretty much said "F*** THAT!" and I actually wretched a pretty hefty dry heave (almost not so "dry"), and once again spat out the disgusting glob, and admitted defeat, though I felt pretty bad, almost like I had disappointed him, but he told me he didn't like it at all when he was younger and it wasn't something he acquired a taste for till much later in life, which made me feel better.

I'm still known as the one who'll eat just about anything, but nay, liver is still one item (sauteed onions or not) on my very very short list, accompanying costco eggplant lasagna, that I can say I won't be touching for a very, very long time.

I don't mind the taste so much as the texture. Kinda mushy and spongie if not cooked enough . I'll only eat the stuff if it's well done.

Haven't eaten one, Mc D's, I've probably had five in my lifetime, I'm not a fan of the processed stuff much, Liver and Onions I can deal with though.

Reminds of that show that Jamie Oliver does where he tries to un-brainwash school kids as to what they eat. Well they all loved chicken nuggets, so he made some right in front of them. Ground up a chicken carcass, bones and all, made it into a nasty looking paste, and deep fried it. At the same time he made a nice fresh meal with real ingredients that was good and nutritious and gave the kids a choice.

All the kids chose to eat the chicken nuggets.

Well you know, bad parenting.

Ah yes, homogenized goop. I saw that picture about 2 years back and have only gotten chicken nuggets once since then. (20 for 4.95 was just too good of deal to pass up)

Heed the old saying about sausage - you don't necessarily want to watch it being made.

Same for:

Hot dogs
Chicken nuggets
Arby's roast beef
Bunches of other foods such as lunch meats

BTST (been there, seen that) and it doesn't bother me a bit.
