Are there good programs for this? I want to take Ipod files, convert to MP3 and install on different MP3 player.

iTunes will let you do it with some of the ones you bought.

Converting through iTunes works with unprotected mp4's as well.

Messed up and deleted the files from Itunes anyway. To me, it seems the best way to make a cd compatible with Itunes and a different MP3 player is to to rip it to the hard drive and then use it for either player. Make sense?

If I'm not mistaken I believe they can be imported into cubase, protools, or any one of the many DAW programs, and then exported as mp3s.

Try this:

It's the single best media file converter that I've ever used, Mac or Windows (though it's only for Windows), and it's free to boot.
