To go on a trip, 3 weeks or so, in southern Asia, Vietnam, Thailand and Laos? I've been thinking to do a a very special trip for some times now and these have been on top of my head for a while. The idea would be to go there once I got my Ba. kind of like a graduation present from myself to myself. Mind you that is in 3 years or so so there's plenty of time to collect money and information and to plan it. What kind of knowledge an planing do I need? What amount of money are we talking about for a trip like that? Also, I'm not interested into going from fancy hotels to fancy hotels, or resorts, I want the experience to be more of an immersion then that.
Should I forget it? |

there are other opportunities like these that allow you a place to stay and food to eat for about 20 hours of work per week. That leaves lots of time to explore and your only real expense is a plane ticket.
You could also look into hostels, but i find those are usually full of drunk Americans, and don't have the same feel of immersion.
Take whatever time you have....If you can get out of having bills to pay back home, why not stay for a few months? |

That being said hostels aren't even bad, all the ones I was at (Ireland, England, Belgium, Canada) were pretty awesome and the people were quite friendly. Also it had the added benefit of people from all over. I met a bunch of Aussies and a Bulgarian couple at one in the UK and some Italians and Germans in Brussels. I thought it was a great way to meet with people from other places.

For the rest, learn thai or korean basic conversation. At least enough to find a bathroom and rent a room.

A friend of mine spent 6 months in Laos or Cambodia (can't recall specifically) working at bar, living next to a river. He has nothing but amazing things to say about the experience. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
