How did you hear of George Harrison's passing ? I remember I was chain smoking Winston's in the Car after leaving the dentist with a head full of Novacaine when the news broke on the radio. I also remember where I was when I heard how severe his cancer was. I was in the Chinese take out waiting for my BBQ beef on a stick to be ready and I was reading the newspaper on the counter.

It's funny you started this thread, I was getting into The Traveling Wilburys this week again. |

I had started playing guitar the same year, and I received a guitar magazine with Harrison on the cover. That's how I learned about his cancer and death.
It wasn't until later in high school that I learned more about the Beatles and came to appreciate their work, and especially George's solo work (which I think is the best of all solo beatle records)

- Mother Teresa sat next to Elton at Gianni Versace's funeral and died shortly afterwards.
- Princess Diana sat next to Elton at Mother Teresa's funeral and died shortly afterwards.
- George Harrison sat next to Elton at Princess Diana's funeral and died shortly afterwards.
- I'm not sure that George had a formal funeral, and if he did I doubt anyone would have sat next to Elton if he was even invited.

I remember hearing that he was close to death just days before he died, which was surprising to me because I didn't even know he had cancer. He was always my favorite Beatle but I'm not quite sure why, though I did love a few of his songs (While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes the Sun, Within You Without You etc).
I'm also a Traveling Wilbury's fan, though I thought Volume I was a much better album than Volume III.

| | | | I was at work and it came on the radio. I was 23 years old, and I was very sad, as George's music had always been very special to me...
The classic rock station that I was listening to said that on the hour every hour they would play a George Harrison song for the next 24 hours... and the 1st song they played after the news of his passing was LAYLA by Eric Clapton... how rude was that? lol |
