How do I get this paint off my car?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was backing into the parking spot beside my yard and I managed to scrape the front right side of the car against the white fence that runs along the little dirt lot. Now there is a bunch of white paint stuck on the car.

How the heck do I get this off?

paint scraper (the kind that uses razor blades), some paint thinner/mineral spirits, some very high grit sandpaper (1000+), polishing compound + buffing wheel, and time. it probably won't end up looking stock, but it'd look better than the white "i swear i didn't see it" tag. if you're lucky, it'll all just come right off with the paint scraper, depending on whether or not the fence also scratched the bumper underneath the paint you can see, which is dependent on how much momentum you had.

If it makes you feel any better, my car has the same ugly scrape pattern... except it's black because all the paint got ripped off! I'm not sure if someone hit me in the parking lot or if I somehow didn't notice doing this

Hi.

I personally wouldn't try to scrape it if this is Your first attempt, I'd use (and have used) a restoration wax or if the white paint is really hard, a fine rubbing compound.

Regards

Okay, since it's paint rubbed onto your car, if you go get a big-block white drawing eraser, the kind draftsmen use for blueprint drawings, you should be able to rub that stuff off without harming your car's paint. I've done this in the past with pretty good results. No chemicals, no fumes, no power-polishing or buffing. Just lots of patience and elbow grease.

+1 to not scraping! You could take the clear coat off, and that's a bad thing.

Try a rubbing compound or cleaner wax as suggested by others (Meguiar's would be my choice). If you can use a buffing wheel, that will save you some sore arms.

polishing compound + buffing wheel
WHAT?!?

This person ran a car into a fence and yet you still think said person might actually be capable of properly manipulating a buffing wheel?!?

Man... you are SO cruel!! ...I like that in a person!

I use Goof Off for that. Works great without damaging the paint.

Goof Off is some powerful stuff. Wear really good gloves, or your hands will be ripped up and dried and cracking. It hates skin.

bad deal there, goof off is a powerful solvent and probably will take the good paint off too. Besides what I suggested earlier, Goo Gone or the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser should do the trick

Rubbing compound. If you have an orbital buffer, that would be better (or can borrow one). I mean a buffer, not a "waxing" polisher...

If you compounding itself won't work, you will have to wetsand with 1000, then compound..
Be careful not to burn the paint.

Use a squeegee to inspect the paint while sanding.

That's how a body shop would do it.
You can also wax it afterwards

Ok, then if you need more power you can hook your orbital buffer up to a 350 Chevy with a stroker kit (383 ci), Trick Flow heads, Edelbrock intake, Holley 750 double pumper. How bout a cherry bomb exhaust for old school sound.
