How do I reset the Maint. light in my car?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 2000 Honda Accord. I keep my maintenance up to date. My maintenance light came on and I believe it's because the dealer forgot to reset it for me. This happened to me once in the past.

I can't remember how to reset it. I remember having to hold something in for a certain amount of time and then do something else...

Anyone?

Joe

If the dealer forgot to reset it, take it back and have them do it.

Key in off position, hold trip reset button, and turn key to on. Keep holding the button until the light goes off.

ignition off>press and hold odometer reset button>turn ignition on without starting car and continue holding, light should go out after a bit. this works for most Hondas and Toyotas with maintenance reminder lights.

I wish they put this in the owners manual.

Some manufacturers have some really crazy ways to reset oil life (that's all your Maint. light is doing). A lot of GM's are key on - full throttle 3 times in 5 sec. while others are running through computer crap. Honda/Acura are typically pretty easy. My Acura has a button under the steering column.

LOL this was the answer from 'the answer bag.com'.

You'll want to put the vehicle in park, lean over to the right side of the car and look for a little box that comes out of the dash (a handle will be visible). Open that baby up and inside will be a little fake leather book. Open that, and inside will be a thick paper book. It may crack when you open it (I'm guessing it hasn't been looked at in 4 years) but you'll want to find the index at the back. Look there for oil change indicator (or similar wording) and follow the instructions directly from the people who actually made your truck. Amazing how those things just pop up in life!

Is it really in the manual?! Oh man... It figures. It would have been too easy to just look in there...

Actually, it was easier to post the question here on TB.

I haven't been in the glove box for a long time. Lord knows what I would find in there.

Peace,
Joe

Hmm, the maintenance light in my 2001 Honda Accord is acting up too. Everytime I start the car it flashes for a few seconds. I've checked all my fluids though and it all looks good. Who knows....

Well, ALL bulbs should light up for a bulb check but the flashing probably means it's time to reset it. Follow the above instructions and you'll be fine.

Mine did this for a couple weeks before it stayed on all the time. It's all good now thanks to the responses in this thread.
