How do you cope with being lonely ? I try to go for a long walk listening to some good tunes. "By myself but not alone".

To be honest, as an introvert, I could do with more time on my own and struggle with being constantly surrounded by people!

But that's life on a crowded little island...?

I don't get enough time alone to know how to cope.

I've been lonely in a room full of people. Just muscle through it.

After moving back to PA from Denver I had a bored / lonely spurt goin' on. All my friends had girls, and I was recently single (left the girl in Denver. lol). I spent a good many late nights over this past summer in my brother's back yard (pool, patio, etc... rockin' area) listening to the Alice in Chains Unplugged CD and playing along with my acoustic bass while drinking far too much.

It really did wonders for my psyche.

-Call my parents, or my sister.
-Chill with my cat.
-Go for a walk on a busy street.
-Go for lunch/dinner/20 beers with a friend.

And if all else fails, I team up with other people on the interwebs for a little:

As usual, I am going to say something that is going to sound totally nuts, but I think I prefer being alone rather than being around people. I guess I'm just an extremely solitary person. When I was a kid, I was the kind of person that would read books at recess while all the other kids were playing and talking with each other.
When you are alone, you are free to focus your mind on things to a much higher degree than when people are around to bug you.
I've really never felt lonely for that reason.

My second marriage came about primarliy because I felt lonely. That event taught me a very important lesson: There are some situations in life that are much, much worse than feeling lonely. Rub some dirt on it, cowboy up and count your blessings.

I get creative. My best ideas always come at late hours during nights alone. Music, design concepts, writing.

I wish I could do that during work hours.

This is pretty much my daily gig too... I don't have a lot of personal experience in being "lonely" per se. In general, I've got a more-than-healthy mistrust of people in general, so being alone is rather comforting...

The ony time I ever get a little lonely is when my girlfriend goes out of town for more than a day or two. I occupy my time by blazing it and reading, writing, painting, playing some bass, jamming with friends or a few bottles of beer with my cat.

I'm in the "you say this like it's a bad thing" camp. I don't want to be totally isolated, but being around even my family or friends for too long (and I AM grateful to have them) wears me out, and being around strangers/loose acquaintances too long totally zaps the life out of me. But then I'm weird.

View it as an opportunity to better yourself and pursue things that you might not have time to do later on.
