Considering hot dogs are fairly indigenous to the area I'm currently living in, there are hot dog stands and restaurants ALL over the area, and each place has it's specialties.
99% of the time, I prefer a hot dog from Yocco's in Allentown, PA:
Well cooked dog on a steamed roll with spicy mustard, chopped onions, and chili sauce.
I also love hot dogs from Pott's Doggie Shop here in Bethlehem, PA:
Well cooked dog on a steamed roll. The dog is sliced lengthwise and filled with Easy Cheese, and covered with chili.
Another local favorite is called Toby's Cup in Lopatcong, NJ.
Deep fried hot dog on a roll with spicy mustard, chopped onions, and a dill pickle slice alongside the dog.
And my last is a local hole in the wall called Charlie's Poolroom in Alpha, NJ:
They serve a hot dog slow cooked on a skillet in oil, tossed on a steam roll with a Sweet and Sour Hungarian onion sauce with chopped onions. Phenomenal, but you've got to call and order a half hour ahead of time.

I like them with brown mustard, relish, chopped onions, and a bit of ketchup. Maybe hot sauce if the stand has a really good hot sauce there. |

I ate a lot of hotdogs when I worked a couple of summers for a grounds crew. Two hotdogs where about the price of a hamburger, but filled you up more (if only because you got more bun).
The only choice of toppings where mustard, relish and ketchup. I don't like ketchup, and I worry about relish that has been out in the sun for days. So I just put on mustard.
And I prefer my hotdogs cooked |

Otherwise, grilled and on a toasted bun with a little ketchup and a little mustard.
Brats are far superior though. |

One thing I'm going to miss about living out here, but as soon as I'm back to New Jersey, I'm getting one of these guys:
Italian hot dog: dog with potatoes, onions and peppers.

I prefer to order them however the shop makes them. No questions asked, no variations, especially the first time around. Never regretted it. Well, except heartburn a few places.
