How do you pronounce "Piezo"?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've always said it as pie-zo (like, the delicious food, then zo),
but on a youtube video I say a guy saying it like pye-ay-zo (delicious food, pirate for "yes", and then zo).

thoughts?

I guess we seem to have a difference of opinions here. I am getting my pronunciation initially from college where I took Electronics Engineering Technology. Piezoelectric devices, like crystals, were always pronounced to us as pee-zo and everyone in the industry that I have ever talked to pronounces it the same way.

It's Greek apparently.

Do we have any Greeks in the house?

Same here. I was led to believe that was in fact the correct pronunciation of "wenge," although the first time I encountered the word I pronounced it "winj."

Okay, I think we've got all possible permutations of the pronunciation of "piezo".

Not a Greek, but +1 for pee-A-zo. I'd accept pee-zo, but I'd frown at PI-zo.
