Do you pronounce the word "bury" so it rhymes with "hurry". Or do you pronounce it like "berry"? I'm not asking how dictionaries suggest the pronunciation, how do YOU say it?
I've heard it mostly one way, but I've been hearing more and more of the other way. I'm so confused . . .

| | | | I say it as "berry," but then again I end up saying a lot of things wrong with my accent and such.
However, there is a street in my hometown called Waterbury, I called it WaterBerry when younger, but started to call it Waterbury later on... and when referring to people that hang out there, they are water bugs xD
b(h)urry way seems like the proper way to say it, but it does not sound right to my ears. I never really hear anyone say it that way.
I have noticed that in my hometown people would say Dollar, but not always pronounce the R; I always say "dolla." After moving, I notice people here say it like dol-LAR. It aggravates me x( |

My ex-inlaws might have made it rhyme with "hurry," but they were slack jawed racist homophobic ignorant rednecks.

The place 'Bury' in Lancashire is pronounced to rhyme with 'hurry' by Lancastrians, but pronounced 'berry' pretty much everywhere else.
The verb 'to bury' is pronounced with the same variations.
At the risk of upsetting Mohawk, the scots pronounce it as some sort of weird hybrid between the two. But then that's true of their entire vocabulary. |
