Here on the Gulf coast we can tell folks who aren't from around here because they melt in the summer.
Me and my two buds would split a 24 pack just to pregame with. I couldn't even tell how much more we'd each drink at the parties.

When I travel I tend to get confused for a local, because I spend all my time partying with/like the locals.

Have you visited the Stax musuem?

In NYC they're pretty cliche. Cameras around their neck and constantly looking up. Oh yeah, and they're smiling.

when they're downtown after dark, and there's not a) a football game, b) a concert or c) a hockey game....it's a pretty safe bet they're out-of-towners.

I knew this was going to come up, my brother from Long Beach made the same comment. It's a local thing as in suburbs verses the city. I have a feeling people from other urban areas use this term too.
Of course it is hard to get over oursleves when we live in such an awesome place.

Around here, this time of year it is easy to spot them.
They are the ones standing outside shivering uncontrollably with a look on their face that screams, how does anyone live here?

Doesn't "the city" just mean not "the suburbs". Every metro area in Australia has "the city".

If you live in a regional area its "town" or "the bush". e.g.

"Do you live in town mate?"
"No, I'm out bush a bit"

I don't think anyone is suggesting its the only city or town, just the closest one.

Is Oakland not a city? Sacramento? Davis? How bout San Jose? It's actually nothing but uninterrupted "city" from Frisco to Davis.

I vent just to torque off "the city" dwellers.

Hey slobake, did SmartCars ever catch on San Fran?

Everytime I see someone driving those things they look incredibly silly.

There are some aroung here but not too many. Yesterday I saw one going 65 mph up the freeway, I thought to myself "Self, that doesn't look safe to me."

The funniest thing Ive ever seen were two "hefty" girls sitting side by side in a SmartCar, flying around a curved mountain road. I sure hope those girls made it home okay.

Californians, get over themselves? Never. haha
I was born in Pasadena. I can't stand Cali anymore.
If I meet a Texan out of Texas, can be just as annoying.

But if you live in a city that has tourist attractions, then obviously they will most likely be out of towners.

I don't really notice out of towners here in Austin. Unless there is a music festival going on. When the ultra hipsters are walking around.

There is a very large girl that lives close to me I see on my way to work all the time. I just laugh, it goes down the road at a 30 deg angle. I dont see her to much now that winter is here. I don't think the little wheels go through 10" of snow to well.

My favorite thing to do when I see them on the freeway and I am in my 4x4 is to look over and smile, then flip on the turn signal and start moving over. The look of fear on their face is priceless!

They're not as attractive or as Hispanic as the rest of coastal San Diego.
