I make a deal with the prosecutor. I got my careless driving charge reduced to failure to maintain proper lane and 6 infraction points down to 2.

Dude, I couldn't win even without the cop showing. The Magistrate asked if the officer there could represent the no show, I said no...the officer was dismissed, and the Magistrate proceeded to feed me a heathy helping of bs about "seeing me in there often" (to which I said you're kidding, my last speeding ticket was 7 years ago...) he looked over my record and said "so it was" and proceeded to knock my citation down to 50 bucks. At that point, I already had missed a few hours of work...so how would I "win" be appealing?

I swear speeding tickets is more a money making scheme than ensuring safety...not that I condone reckless speeding.

I'm sure CheezeWiz will stop by soon enough to tell us about how we're all morons, and we shouldn't try to get out of a ticket, and we shouldn't have gotten a ticket in the first place, etc.

For my last few tickets, I heavily researched New York State traffic law, and got the tickets thrown out. Specifically, I didn't get a supporting deposition when I requested one, I had a trial date 6 months after I entered my plea, and my name was spelled wrong on the ticket. All of them dismissed with prejudice, because I don't feel like getting the same ticket 5 minutes after I leave the court. You don't need to know all the facets of traffic law, but if you know enough, the judges will either reduce the ticket, or get rid of it altogether, just to keep the line moving. There's always at least 50 or 60 people there.

I don't know if there's a US equivalent but there's a book written by an ex policeman you can pick up here full of tips on how to get out of them. I've never had one myself thus far, thankfully.

If you just show up to court you have a chance of either having the charges dropped or lowered. It's worth a try. Back in the day when I was CRAZY it worked for me on more than one occasion.

There really is no winning. Just losing a little less badly.

I made a deal with the prosecutor to pay an extra $300 to ensure no points on my license.

lol.

You know I'm not kidding, I DO obey the speed limit, unlike the rest of you cats out there. I have slotted and drilled brakes, but that's for emergency stops only.

It's always worth doing homework on the fine points of the citation. That's part of the game...and you can play it just like they can.

You modified your brakes for emergency stopping? Just to let you know, that can have a negative impact depending on your car, and setup. You have less brake surface area, your pads will wear faster and the rotors can (and will) crack over time.

I used the slow system against itself. It was in Orange county some time back.

There was a little known Calif. law (don't know if it still applies) that states that you can choose to be tried in the county seat instead of the default (officer's) courthouse. So I asked for it when I got my ticket. I was counting on the paper work being too slow or that the officer would not show up at another court.

Sure enough (not a surprise) the ticket somehow got lost. It took so long to locate it that by the time they found the ticket, the judge dismissed it because it took too long (deprived of speedy due process).

Dropping a deuce on the bailiff is the only way to win in traffic court.

Here's what I do.

First I get my hair all slicked back, and a draw tattoos on me all the way to my neck. I practice my cheesy Japanese accent. Then, I go into court with an expensive black suit and two busty blondes with me. I proceed to tip everyone on my way in to the court.

I go to the stand with a very cocky look on my face. I look over at the cop, and if I notice he has a ring, I say in my cheesy Japanese accent, "My associates terr me yo wife is a belly beautifur rady." I smile, and then say to the judge, "I belly belly much admile yo house. Someday, maybe I can visit, yes?". From there, I have about a dozen young Asian males with similar black suits, slicked back hair and tattoos enter the courtroom. They stand there with their arms crossed and await the ruling. The judge then says case dismissed, and "nod and say, the Yakuza appleciates yole wisdom".

Works every time.

You did this yourself, or your car came from the factory this way?

Slotted and Drilled rotors don't decrease your stopping time. In fact, if the system as a whole wasn't designed for them, it will INCREASE your stopping distance, as well as decrease pad and rotor life. They're designed for performance applications in which the brakes need to cool down between stops quickly. They do help prevent brake fade, but that really shouldn't be a problem in your application, either way.

Folks, don't modify your braking systems. Factory pads and rotors.
