How FACEBOOK is using you (to annoy your friends and more)

This is an interesting article, and a very interesting site, if you haven't seen it before.

If you use FB, it is imperative to keep up and be aware of what they are doing with every bit of your personal information, and how to control, at least until they change the rules again.

Just stopping by to say that I'm in my 3rd month facebook-free.

How many anti-fb thread have you started so far? I didn't know the Winklevoss twins played bass.

Due to facebook:

I have a lot more people coming to my shows

I have found several of my cousins, who live in places as far away as Kansas City, Scotland, South Africa and Australia

I got re-acquainted with my friend Tim, from High School, just long enough to have some great conversations with him on the phone, before he died

Made peace with a number of ex-girlfriends, and got to enjoy knowing about their lives, kids, and adventures since we parted ways

Gotten to know a lot of people in my area

Expressed myself to an ever changing audience, in a variety of ways

Gotten updates from my sister on my parents' health, sometimes when it was critical that I get that information

I LOVE my facebook. It has been nothing but positive for me. I don't care who has information on me. I don't care if the whole world knows just about everything there is to know, short of my Credit Card Numbers, Checking Account Numbers, DOB, SSN or any combination thereof that can cause me to actually lose anything.

Luckily, I am dirt poor, and if you stole my identity, you would probably just get liens filed against you. I have nothing to lose, and thanks to facebook and YouTube, thousands of people have experienced my music, and now I won't die in complete obscurity.

I'm of the opinion that Facebook is a website. This is not 2nd hand information.

I had been as worried about all the misinformation that gets routed through FB as the information that it collects. Then I realized that at least the people embracing the endless procession of fake factoids, mis-attributed quotes, and chain-mail articles that would do the Onion proud, have been rendered into passive slugs by the same medium and will never go out and actually do something misguided about the crap they're reading.
It's a brave new world out there.

So this isn't the first March to have five Saturdays for the past ten million years, and the Chinese don't call it Moneybags, and I'm not going to become wealthy because of it?

GREAT.

I was totally counting on that.

Thanks.

THANKS A LOT.

Or, one can choose to supply FB with a minimal amount of personal information.
