The benefit to living right by an international airport is that there's a giant field off the south end of one of the runways that is about 600 m by 600 m and is basically a dog park. |

Plantar fascitis and other problems have cut me back to where I can walk 9 holes (about 2.5 miles) and anything more than that is frankly painful. But I still make it a point to walk whenever I'm headed somewhere that's less than a mile and I have time to do so.
About the Pepsi - diet soft drinks are your friends. It takes 1-2 weeks to get used to the difference in taste.

You're right about the Pepsi, it's gotta go. I dropped about ten pounds in a month when I stopped taking sugar in my daily Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Now I use Splenda and drink Diet Mountain Dew, and I'm slowly wearing a hole in my aorta from artificial sweetener..

Some weekends i used to walk home from a night out in dundee or perth (closest cities to me). About 18 miles from one and 16 from the other . (saves £30 on a taxi! plus its peaceful for once!)

That mixed with cutting back on the amount of soda i drink is working pretty well. I enjoy drinking Iced Tea-so i've started taking a bottle [27 oz] with me to work instead of buying a 20 oz soda at 7-11. I drink between 2 & 3 gallons of tea a week minimum.
My next addition to the change is lifting 4-5 days a week in addition to the walking.

I "run" 5 days a week on an elliptical trainer for 30 minutes each day. I think the distance (including the resistance, which cycles in and out and is substantial) is supposed to be about 2 miles. I've been doing this for several years first thing in the morning, and it helps me keep my weight constant (and on the lean side) without further ruining my knees. The machine has been a real lifesaver for me. |

Just walking has become a pleasure, in fact I started off doing just a few hundred yards a couple of times a day,
Now , I take my young blokes dog and try to do at least 3 Kilometers (thats for the dog) depending on the heat,
