How hard would it be to move to Sweden?

Are there good nursing jobs there? What's the economy like? How's the weather?

Weather is good, the heroine is decent (not my style personally), The women are fit and they love to snuggle during the cold winters. Petrol is a fortune... but diesel isn't any more expensive, and the cars are more efficient.

What are you moving to Sweden? As a general rule, the bigger the object, the harder its gonna be

I too have felt an urge to move to Sweden, I am 90% Swedish and I feel the motherland calling me. Do they have any jobs out there for people who aren't good at anything?

I believe that one of the requirements are that you need to have a 100,000 dollars in savings before you can move there.I read that somewhere recently.

Move to Norway. We got oil (and 3000 billion Norwegian Kroner in oil savings ). They got higher taxes and 1000 billion Swedish Kronor in debt

Ok done derailing thread. Have fun in Sweden. Their chicks are undoubtedly equal to Norwgian ones. And they are the Death Metal nation number one, while Norway got Black Metal (and Denmark got nothing, hahahahaha).

They make better money in Norway, but Sweden is not that bad either in that field. Be prepared to pay 30-40 % tax, but the salary level is generally higher there than here in Finland, so in the end we make about the same money here as they do, after tax. Scandinavia (with the exception of Norway) is not known for high salaries though. On the other hand, Norway is a terribly expensive country.

It might be a bit difficult for foreigners that don't speak Swedish to get a decent job in Sweden, so don't move there first and then try to get a job.

The weather is rather different in the south and in the north. If you like to ski, don't move to Skåne, the southernmost part of Sweden. However, if you like an early spring and late autumn, that's exactly where you should go. A nice thing up in the north is the late sunset in the summer, but that's compensated by really short days in the winter. I live approx. at the same latitude as Umeå, and around Christmas, you see daylight only 4-5 hours a day in the winter, while it around midsummer never seem to set.

In the summer, we might get temperatures up to about 30-35°C here, but it mostly stays between 15 and 25 in the summer depending on the weather. You never know how a summer will turn out - sometimes it's raining most of the summer, sometimes it's a wonderful summer with lots of sunshine. You can't really predict that. In the winter you might hit temperatures as low as -30...-40°C in the north, but you seldom reach -20° in the south. Usual winter temperatures lies between 0°C and -20°C. -5°C to -10°C is IMO the nicest winter temperature.

Be sure to check out the nature while you're here if you decide to come. No-one can prevent you from going out in the woods to collect berries or mushrooms or similar, and it's pretty safe to do so as there's very few dangerous animals in the forests around here (only one type of poisonous snake is rather common though, but there's very few bears and wolves - I've never seen one). Also check out the archipelago outside of Stockholm, it's a nice area.

If you're considering moving to Scandinavia, I'd have to recommend checking out Finland, too. A very modern society, and the nursing sector is hiring.

I did a brief check on immigration services website ( www.migri.fi ), and apparently the system is that you can stay in the country for three months as a "tourist" with your visa, but if you happen to sign a work contract during this period, you can apply for a residence permit. The work contract can be temporary.

That's what they tell people in England who want to emigrate to the US!

A friend of mine did this and he had to prove that he had $100k - which he did easily once he sold his house!

There are no financial restrictions as far as I know. I've yet to hear of a US citizen being denied living in Sweden, but then again most of them come here attached to a Swedish woman, which probably makes it easier.

Taxes are higher the more you make, so a salary increase won't be as gratifying as you first think. There's a sales tax on almost everything, ranging from 6% on books and magazines, 12% on food to 25% on the majority of goods and services.

Quite a bit of these taxes come back in the form of health care, infrastructure, schools and daycare for children.

A friend of mine recently moved to Sweden - and he's a happy camper there. I can tell you he certainly doens't have this kind of money in the bank. It's simply not true.

Sweden is a very nice country. Lots and lots and lots of space, nice summer weather (ok, less so in the winter) and friendly people. Stockholm is a very open, relaxed city. Also, every myth about Swedish women is... not a myth. They have some beautifull women up there!

You missed my point - I was saying it was the other way around!!

So - if a Swedish (or any other European) person wanted to move permanently to the US they would have to prove that they had $100k - NOT the other way around!!
