I work at a school and Monday-Thursday it's khaki pants with a polo, button down shirt or since it cold now a nice sweater. We have casual Friday's every Friday where we can wear jeans and our school shirts or a college themed shirt. It's pretty relaxed even with all that, at least I don't have to wear a suit or tie. During the Summer when the kids and teachers are gone then I can wear the Metallica or Nirvana shirts as the OP mentioned without problem.

I just put in my 2 week notice. Going to the place where they told me i was overdressed because i wore a dress shirt to the interview. Everyone (all 15 people) had shorts on and tshirt.

Going to a start up... Going to be a lot of work and its going to be amazing!!! I can't wait!

I work out in the middle of the desert, so I'm allowed to dress down. Today it was jeans, flannel shirt over a waffle knit, and Sambas.

Of course, when I'm TDY, it's a different story... shirt and tie.

Congrats on the new job!

I knew I was in the right place when I wore a suit to my interview and the first thing my now boss said was "You're way overdressed, you'll never need to wear a suit here again" I think he was wearing a t-shirt that said "6 out of 7 dwarves are not Happy."

It was a startup when I joined but we've since been acquired by one of the big Silicon Valley tech companies. No change in the dress code.

Thanks homies. This and cocktails are my two embarrassingly yuppie passions. But, if you're gonna go for it, go hard, right?
