I have an MS rather than an MA, which took 5 years doing it at night while I worked full time. It got so grueling near the end I wanted to quit but thankfully decided that I invested way too much time to just throw it away. That kept me motivated for the last year or so.

It's tough doing it while working full time, but that's a good way to have someone else pay for it. I don't know if I would have spent the money to pay for it myself.

Oh, and not to pick nits, but no one awards you a master's degree. You EARN that one (at least in my program you earned it)!!!!

I run distance ed programs. The average for our distance students is 2-3 years. Depends a lot on their other commitments. If you're an on-campus student and not working more than 20 hours a week, most do it in 18-24 months.

But they WORK at it. Getting it done in that time period requires consistent effort.

I went through a PhD program where a non-thesis master's was automatic after completing the candidacy requirements of coursework followed by comprehensive exams. That took about 2.5 years.

How the hell can someone finish grad work in a year??? Was it a 12 credit Cracker Jacks program, or did it come in a Happy Meal???

My Counseling one was 60 credits. My Family Therapy "Masters" was more of a three year state certification that is Masters equivalency in family therapy, no actual credits per se.

Technically, there's no reciprocity with other states, but the places I've interviewed for in Denver have acknowledged it to a degree. The good thing is that it was free, paid for by my previous workplace.
