I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology in college. I was just wondering if you guys remember how long it took you to memorize all 206 bones in the body.

I've never taken that class, but it shouldn't be too difficult to memorize them. I can name a good portion of the bones from just picking the names up over the years.
Some of them are really easy to memorize too, like the metacarpals. You just remember that word and add I-V for each hand. That's 10 down, then the same for the metatarsals. Not too much work to memorize those. Same with the vertebrae, you just remember the 3 categories and number each one, and that takes a good chunk out of the 206.
So I dunno, memorize as many as you can, write them down, then memorize what you missed? You could probably do it in a week.

The use of mnemonic devices can help you remember the names of different sections of bones. Others have suggested colored diagrams of bone sets-as a learning aid.

For example, you can use the mnemonic device "PEST OF 6" to help you remember the cranial bones, parietal, ethmoid, sphenoid, temporal, occipital and frontal. The "6" helps you remember that there are six cranial bones.

It's actually pretty easy. Wait until you have to learn cranial nerves, whether they are motory or sensory, and they're main function. I found that a little more difficult.

My mother has been working in a hospital for 30 odd years and I've been working in one for a while, myself. I work in Diagnostic Imaging in the main hospitals as well as in the Rehab Facilitation which deals with a lot of arthritis patients. The bones have become too easy.

I had to earn them many years ago, as wel as the articulation names.

It took me a few days. I used to have a good memory.

Break it down into digestible chunks, personally, I would break it into 3.

Skull and Torso
Arms, etc.
Legs, etc.

Right idea, probably the wrong breakdown.
Try this,
1. skull cranial
2. skull facial
3. spinal, rib and sternum, pelvic girdle
4. arm and hand
5. leg and foot

Most people aren't aware how many bones are in the skull. Also learning the hand and arm seems to help pick up the foot and leg.

When I was taking A&P for nursing, we had a week to learn the names, types, joint function of each, and shape well enough to identify by touch the major ones. It can be done, and in fact was really one of the easier tasks I did over the course of my education.

I concur.

If this is what's tripping you up with A&P you're in trouble .

It ain't hard. You have your gimmies like ribs and vertebrae, the long bones are easy and the little ones like the carpals and metacarpals, cranial bones ect. can be memorized using acronyms.

Shouldn't you be on tour or something? Just be careful with that... that's how babies get made. At least that's what Maki said. Do a search.

i teach life drawing and i can remember a lot of bones and muscles, break them down by location, draw them, get a plastic model, point them out on your own body or somebody elses, it shouldn't take you more than a week or ten days

Remember that you have a cheat sheet with you at all times: your own body.

A&P is fascinating to me. This is what makes us who we are and makes of capable of everything we do. I'm surprised there isn't stronger emphasis on it during standard education.

Take an interest in what your body can do and how it does it and you'll be fine.
