I saw someone on here with vegan in their signature and was wondering how many other TB members are vegan. It can't just be BASSIST or however he spells it with the dots and whatnot and myself. So vegans post here. |

I am vegan for purely logical reasons. It is wrong to cause unneccesary suffering and death. Using animals causes suffering and death. It is unneccessary to use animals to live a healthy productive life.
The only excuse for eating eggs, dairy or flesh is that it tastes good. That's not a good enough reason to torture, and kill other sentient beings. That's like supporting child rape because it feels good.
In america most of Europe people are outraged by someone eating a dog. But, pigs and cows are at least as intelligent as dogs and have the same ability to feel pain and emotions. If it's wrong to eat dogs, it's wrong to eat cows for the same reason.
Dairy is the reason the veal industry exists. Those cows have to give birth to produce milk, and since males cannot produce milk they become veal. Even some female calves become veal because they aren't needed. And, cows that cannot produce milk anymore become hamburgers.
The egg industry is very similar to the dairy industry. Most male chicks in the hatcheries are immediately killed because they don't need as many of them as they do females.
I have talked to non-vegan doctors and nutritionists and had blood tests. It's perfectly safe and not at all difficult to be healthy eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains and legumes. In fact, the more animal products one consumes, the harder it is to have a healthy diet. Even bodybuilders, MMA fighters, and profesional athletes can be vegan and build muscle on a %100 plant based diet.
To have been vegan then start using animal products does not make sense to me at all given the facts.
Ex-vegans piss me off because they are just lying to everyone. If you just stop eating animal products and don't replace them with something, you will become very weak very quickly. But, if you keep up the same caloric intake you will be fine. I think it was Rza that said "An Ox is strong as a mothaf**ka, and all he eats is grass." If you aren't vegan or "used to be" just tell the truth. It's not that it doesn't work, you just don't care.
If you are going to use animal products, watch "Earthlings" and see what you are supporting. It's not one of those peta videos, it's actual footage of real animal farms that meet or exceed the rules regarding "humane" treatment of animals being used for food.
If you are fine with that stuff going on so you can use animal products then go ahead. But, you should know where your "food" comes from.
This turned out much longer than I was planning..... |

A vegan lifestyle is pretty hard to keep up, and isnt exactly the best choice for everybody. Yes, you can work at it to get all the nutrients your body needs, but not everybody has the will power to do so.
Its an attitude like yours that gives people the impression that vegans and vegetarian are elitist and militant. The arrogance in which you speak is certainly not doing anyone any favors, least of all your own agenda.
