how much do you spend on groceries?

i've been buying my own groceries for years now, but only recently have i really been watching it.

about a week and a half ago, i spent $60 on groceries, but the next week, just a little more conscientiousness got me a good amount of food for $40. (that said, yesterday i went out to lunch, which set me back around $8-ish.)

how often do you go grocery shopping, and how much is your typical receipt?

i guess my curiosity has been piques since reading an article on msn about a family of four getting by on less than $110 () for one week, and then late last night/early this morning, reading a message board post elsewhere about a family (possibly just husband and wife) spending around $800 a month on organic groceries.

I think I spend about $200-$250 a month on groceries for myself. I'm not the most thrifty shopper.

It really depends on the price of things I buy weekly. I buy lots a couple pounds of haddock every week and usually a few cuts of salmon to smoke, and that's always expensive. Even on the cheapest weeks.

I'd say between 200 and 300 a week.

I used to drop about $150 a week, but that was when I was buying TV dinners and hot pockets all the time. Now I buy some hamburger meat or some pork chops and cook them myself and save. Its about $60 a week now.

$28/week when I bought groceries. Been two weeks since I had anything in my fridge or pantry. I just eat out now, and it's way expensive.

I spend about $90 a week to feed 2 adults, an 18 month old, and four cats. Take the cats out of the equation and its more like $75-$80 a week.

Replace that funny S with a funny E and that's about what I spend (edit: for myself). Finland is a rather expensive country when it comes to food.

My wife spent $620 on "groceries" at Walmart and Target in July!! I disupute this since I bet a lot of that wasn't groceries. But she says it was all "groceries."

Groceries are funny. I'll buy the generic peanut butter because it's 20 cents cheaper and wait to buy frozen pizzas when they're on sale.

But then we'll have some people over for dinner and we'll drop $60 for one meal.

Kinda skews the average.
