How much is a trillion?

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted this in another thread, but I thought, apart from the issue for which it was posted there, that it was worth its own forum.

http://orlingrabbe.com/trillions.php
http://www.tysknews.com/Depts/Taxes/million.htm
http://pickwaynesbrain.blogspot.com/...-trillion.html

If you counted to a million by one every second, you'd get there in a little over 12 days. If you counted to a billion every second, you'd arrive in about 31 years and 8-1/2 months.

And if you counted to a trillion... in 31,688 years you would be done.

This number scares me.

It was. It isn't anymore.

US, Canada, Australia, UK, Singapore, South Africa, New Zealand, Hong Kong...etc. All use "short scale"

Info of the day:

AFAIK, the largest number that has an official name is called a googolplex. It is derived from one googol that equals 10100. One googolplex is 10googol.

That's a large number.

http://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/googolplex

EDIT: Seems like there is one larger number: http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Googolduplex

Your explanation shows what's wrong ...

so if 1,000 x 1,000 = 1,000,000 - million

then a billion should be million x million

and a trillion should be billion x billion !!

There are several numbers much larger than a googolduplex. Check out Skewes' Number and Graham's Number.

Ya someone might want to check that math. And I don't think you will need calculus.
