The cat doesn't much care for water exposure and I'm too soft-hearted to listen to sad meows.

+1
My short haired coon hound mix has oily skin and a bath wrecks it.
My long haired mutt gets shaved down 3-4 times a year and the "dry" bath her so she gets 2-3 "baths" per year. |

Trip to the bathtub for him and a trip to the first aid kit for me..
And when my long haired cat has diarrhea, that's just too nasty not to wash of.. The bathroom looked like a set of Texas Chainsaw Massacre
and IIRC declawing is illegal (or only done in extreme circumstances) in my country, and personally I think that's a good think.. But that's my opinion.

Our cat's a strictly indoor cat, so it's limited to the number of nasty things its exposed to. It's really only when it's havig trouble keeping its rear area clean that it become bath time. I still feel bad for it though.

But my cat Blue doesn't seem to mind them- we've given her a bath before, with no injuries.
As much as I love cats, I've always wanted to have a huge awesome dog that you can bathe simply with a water hose. Gotta have a big yard for a big dog, though. If I was a dog, I wouldn't see any point in living if I didn't have a whole bunch of grass to run around in, and to poop in.
(speaking of poop- my cat Blue is trained to go to the door when she needs to go. Pretty awesome- no litterbox in the house at all)

I made a bath set up in the the backyard out of an old bathtub mounted up a couple of feet on a stand. Use a ramp to get them up & in.
I don't break my back bending over to wash them and they have the joy of a gentle warm water spray instead of the cold hose. I still find rinsing is more thorough with the cold hose tho
Cats - never. Bathed one once after she came in with a wet coat smelling like gasoline (???!).
Grab by the nape of the neck like a kitten and hose with the sink's spray nozzle.
Once wet she pretty much surrendered.
Human animal - everyday after work.

Otherwise it's just like if a person doesn't bathe for more than a week, their hair is gross. The cats get bathed about twice a year- they are indoor-only and have short hair and don't smell bad most of the time. |
