The "How pretentious are you?" thread!

Here is where we can talk about how pretentious we are or aren't, and how we enjoy that degree of pretentiousness!

I find myself to be quite pretentious in most matters (music, the arts, academics, drinks, smokes, etc...). It is both a plague and a blessing. Everything always becomes more expensive, but it just drives me to be more successful so the added costs aren't that bad.

On a more serious note, having high goals, dreams, and standards really has driven me to do better in school and all my other pursuits. Anyone else have experiences similar to this?

Anyway, for those of us who grab the pipe before the camels... the Dom before the Korbel... The Mt. Gay before the Captain... the leather before the cloth... This thread is for us!

I'm so pretentious that this thread doesn't dignify a proper response.

Now I'm off to Starbucks in my hybrid car so I can work on my latest piece of abstract art while reading the latest theatre (no, not that theatre) reviews on my Macbook.

I'm pretentious or simple, depending on the matter at hand. Never in between.

I'm a bit of an elitist, myself, especially when it comes to academics. I know everything, and even when I'm totally wrong, I still act as if I'm right. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that I'm intellectually superior to all of those lesser serfs.

I also have an affinity for classic literature, European sports cars, fencing (the sport), ancient Chinese artwork, German autobahns, and Norway.

On the highly regarded "Lindfield-Johnson" pretentiousness scale, I rate an above average "25 point by point replies". Obviously this is not as unpretentious as a mere "4 point by point replies", but neither is it anywhere near the theoretical maximum of "approaching infinite replies" postulated by the creators. In honour of its creator, this threoretical limit is known as "One Lindfield-Johnson". I am a mere fraction of a Lindfield-Johnson in terms of pretentiousness. Using the updated naming code, I am considered to be a quarter Mike_V_S. So named for being very pretentious, but quite accessible to a mere human. The next measure is of course, one Fuqua, but that is still paled by a single Johnson-Lindfield.

A very wise person once told me: "Being pretentious is a facade. You just want to be a performer. You don't have to relate to people when you're talking down to them, in life or on stage."

That being said, I'm a nasty egotist, a great debater (for the sake of the art, not for the sake of any cause), drink expensive scotch and drive an expensive car, and generally live beyond my meager means.

OMG Starbucks? How painfully ordinary. I only drink Indonesian beans, roasted just dark enough (not Pete's cremated, but close) and shipped in from Cole Coffee, in Oakland, CA.

I've never been to England, yet I spell colour with a U.

I refuse to use instrument cables, not made from Canare GS6.

I grew up around San Fransisco Bay. "The Best Place on Earth" (tm) just ask anyone from there.

My favorite director is François Truffaut.

I hate all basses not made by Peavey.

That is the most complete and elegant description I have ever read in reference to the Lindfield-Johnson scale. The Wikipedia entry isn't even worthy to share a bibliography with that post and will likely disappear in anticipation of someone forwarding said post to replace it. Well Done!

I hate hipsters, hippies, teenagers, drama kids, art snobs, the doddering and confused elderly, tween sensations, bleeding-heart liberals, far-right nutjobs alike.

So I guess that just makes me a dick...

I'm very simple, except when it comes to three things: Beer, Bacon, and Babes.

That proves nothing; anyone can make up words! I bet you can't spell sassafras.

Oh yeah? Well, I've successfully completed a simulation of two Mercury Redstone flights, and made a successful TLI burn for Apollo 11. Put that it your wooden, gilded pipe and smoke it!

That's all well and good, but have you successfully navigated Oregon Trail without any fatalities?
