I wonder if this has something to do with many recent incidents in which various websites are trying to tell me that I'm from France or California. It's been very annoying and I'd be willing to bet that it IS related to this.

Funny, it was disabled by default on my facebook account.

But thanks, i just tightened up all the privacy settings a notch.

Im curious about what exactly you guys put up on facebook that makes it such a privacy concern. I've always followed the Internet golden rule, which is; Never post anything you wouldn't be comfortable seeing reported in the newspaper. Thus, I'm not really worried about my facebook privacy. I just don't know why people wouldn't want their facebook info shared with the sites they visit to help those sites cater to their interests.

These steps certainly help to lock things down, but I know that there are other holes...like one of the photo hosting sites that TB'ers use...When I click over to look at a bass, I often get my FB avatar, etc. It drives me nuts.

I (and the people I know) use FB to share and discuss "cool" and interesting things we find on the internet.

Its a super easy convenient way to converse with your friends from across the world, either in groups or singularly.

You do understand that there are not just marketers but also criminals out there who are aggregating personal information about people from as many sources as possible?
