Question How To Review???

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok I did a search and the results that came up weren't what I expected, sorry if this has been covered before.

I'm a Tad curious about how to go about writing a review, and since typically I've always used some form of guideline for most written "work" I've done.

so therefore I want to know, what guidelines or points would you go over in a
A) basic review
B) indepth review

Danke in advance And sorry if I put this in the Wrong forum Mods move it as you wish.

Depends what you're reviewing. Obviously reviewing a bass will cover different points than an amp, or effect.

Basically, when it comes to a bass, I would cover feel, finish, tone... overall sort of quality, etc. an anything else you decide you need to cover.

Most magazines will send you an author guide. See if Bass Player Magazine has one. They might have a recommended format for reviews, which you can use, even if you don't plan on publishing it.

An exellent advice.

AFAIK, most of the magazines regardless of the genre, are constantly hunting for fresh blood. Somewhere in the mag You're bound to find a small print that gives directions how to contact them about the material requirements. They are sometimes very spesific about the format, pic sizes/locations, programs used etc. in order to require them as little work as possible when viewing them.

If it's just for the net reviews, seek for the "best" format (in Your opinion) that you can find and follow that as a guideline. There's a lots of sites just for reviews, shouldn't be hard to do.

Remember though that a certain level of "amateurnishness" can make the review more believable, an actual user is seen to review a product. At least that's how I see it.

Regards
Sam
