Happy new year everyone!

I took this video now at midnight from the balcony in my apartment in Kopavogur, Iceland.

This is how Icelanders welcome the new year!

Is it my imagination or were those fireworks extra "sizzly"?

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Reykjavik ten years ago. I have to say, to this day, it remains THE most enjoyable New Year either of us have enjoyed before or since. Marvellous, magical place. Just so damn expensive though.... I believe even the 'golden arches' have called time there because it's so expensive?

You should check us out now. It's cheaper thanks to the fall of our currency

Hehe
Not far from it....
According to measurements pollution from fireworks went through the roof at midnight.
The amount of small dust particles in the air was 120 times that of a normal day.

Iceland looks amazing, if a little on the cold side!

But cool fireworks none the less.

Those in the know respect the people of Iceland for telling the IMF, UK and Netherland banks to fara til helvítis.

That was awesome. And thats coming from a guy in NYC who thought he'd seen it all. I was also born on Independence Day, July 4. So I know a little about fireworks. Great job!!!!

Yup, we even have record amount of snow now. It started snowing in November, coupled with well sub zero temperatures we haven't seen the ground since then. There hasn't been so much snowfall in December since they started measuring it in 1923. So we had an abundance of white Christmas this year.

I've lived in this apartment for three years but this was the first new years eve that we were home. Such a great view from here!

I remember Gullfoss being particularly enchanting. That, and swimming in the midday darkness and snow at the Blue Lagoon. Gonna have to think about coming back...
