I owe everything I am today to my mom, so I'd be nothing without her. My father on the other hand, well, I've posted much about that here. Let's just say that I'm better off now that he's gone.

My mother died when I was 19. I've missed her dearly ever since, but I think she'd be happy with the way my life turned out.

I wouldn't be living in Texas. I'd instead have grown up in my home state of Georgia with my godparents (my aunt and uncle) and probably turned into a truly small town country bumpkin along with all my cousins. I also probably would not have become the bass player I am today. That isn't to say I wouldn't be a bassist, but because I'd be around my granddad so much more (he's the one who gave me my first bass) I'd probably be much more a country bassist than a rock and jazz bassist.

Well, my mom died when I was 9 and life was hell for a couple of years after that, so I guess if my father had died too, it would have been worse.

I probably wouldn't be as nuerotic and anti-social as I am. I wouldn't have nearly the amount of issues that I have. Not that I'm wishing I would have grown up without them...but those two really did a number on me.

I guess, but it doesn't even give one a starting point to guesstimate what direction their life would lead.

Here, I'll play for the sake of argument:

I'd be President.

That was fun.

Depends on how early they died. If they died soon enough...perhaps I woud not have been tortured.

Ok, to expand on MM's question, let's say this happened when you were 6. Where would you end up? Do you have any family that would have taken you in? How do you think your personality would change being raised in these peoples' household? Would you have still become a bassist?

Well, I was abandoned as a baby in Korea and adopted by an American family so I can say my life would be like it is now without my biological parents.

I guess my question would be...what would my life be like if they HADN'T given me up?

I don't have the proper context to answer that.

My father died before I turned 4. My mother remarried two years later to a man who was pretty different from my biological father (I never really got along with my stepdad). But since I never knew my father, I don't really know. I DO know he was in the computer industry in its infancy (early 70s), so we may have had more money. Other than that, I haven't a clue.

Actually this is better...

At 6 my parents were divorced, and I already had a step mom so she would have taken me in. I would have lived in virtual slavery as a maid. My two step sisters would laugh at me as I did all the chores and they were the apples of my evil stepmother's eye. One day an invitation to the Royal Ball would come.....oh, never mind.
