It's the community website for the famous Hubble Space Telescope.

there is a compilation of tons of photos it's taken along with updates on every new photo released.

here's the latest, taken 8 days ago:

it is a picture of 3 galaxies simultaneously colliding.

some info from the site:
Quote:
This image is roughly 3.2 arcminutes (1,000,000 light-years or 31,000 parsecs) wide.
every time I see any of the photos on that sight, my mind explodes a little. I just can't get over how BIG the universe is.

Yeah, I'm addicted to Hubble images.

I'm a hopeless astronomy geek.

You think you're geeky - I just worked out that on the scale of that pic, the distance from Earth to the Sun would be about 2 picometers.

Seriously.

Yup. And our galaxy is going to collide with Andromeda in a few million years.

Only every so often when a thread like this one pops up around here. When I see the thread like this one, I go check out the site, get impressed, then act like I'm going to get all into astronomy and check out the site everyday. After about two hours, I forget all about it.

Ah, I thought it was going to be in about 200 million years. My mistake.

Not everyone has to be into astronomy, man. The occasional reminder, if anything, is better than going and checking it every day, because the wave of awe remains strong whenever you go back to check it out.
