Is that the guy who said that the devil has it out for Haiti from the "pact" they made during their revolution from the French?

We're watching the video feed from Santiago right now. We actually have a friend who lives down there, so we're waiting for updates to see if she's okay.

It was caused by a CME. A solar filament collapsed and it sent a CME to earth which was supposed to arrive.....you guess it....last night. Some lady from Chile said she looked outside her window before the quake and she said there were weird colors in the sky and it looked lke the movie 2012.THere was also a filament collapse on the day of the Haitian EQ. Last I heard, there was a tsunami risk for the entire west coast.......and......there are moderate quakes going on at MT St Helens.....the entire Pacific plate is shifting, it seems.....

Starting to hear back from family in Santiago, Ovalle and La Serena (both north of Santiago). Everyone seems to be okay but nervous.

First, there's no evidence that coronal mass ejections are related to terrestrial earthquakes, and second, flashing lights are not uncommon before and during earthquakes, most likely related to release of piezoelectric energy from pressure on rock, particularly quartz-rich rocks. Also, I'm not seeing any significant earthquakes in the Mt. St. Helens area.

WOW that's a big quake. I remember watching a history channel show a few months ago explaining the plate tectonics of South America and how Chile was due for another mega-quake. And here it is. While 120ish people killed is tragic, I am relieved that it wasn't drastically more.

now we just gotta wait for our California quake...

Chile is much better prepared to deal, at least. They've experienced 13 earthquakes of 7.0 or worse since '73.

This is just what I read somewhere. I wasnt exactly sure how CMEs related to earthquakes either, but I read it on another forum. Someone else mentioned the MT St. Helens shocks, so I dunno.
