A humorously sobering read for those who care about the whole gas price thing...

I thought it was an enjoyable read. Maybe you will too.
I'm certainly behind the title...no problems there...

My problem is the central assumptions of the article are wrong. The problem is not "Peak Oil" a leftover joke from a seventies administration. The problem is the US has artificially eliminated supply by regulations that makes getting at Oil reserves about impossible. ANWR is off limits, We have a Moratorium on shale oil deposit exploration and 85% of the continental shelf is off limits. Add this to the fact that two of the biggest oil reserves in the world are basically off limits due to strife (Iran, Iraq) you have a recipe for ARTIFICIALLY limiting the supply. The supply itself is not an issue, at the present rate of growth (including the new growth in China and India) the worlds true known oil reserves will last until about 2150. The real interesting thing is that geologist keep discovering new or untapped reserves, so the actual world oil reserves are growing not declining. The problem has never been not enough oil. And yes, if we want to burden the lower middle class and starve the poor unnecessarily, our current "energy policy" is a great idea.

Whoa whoa whoa Burk, let's not introduce facts into this. Let's keep with the spirit of the article, and speculate in as smug a manner as possible.

Good times. I switched over to a Civic about two years ago. 33 MPG. I'm going to ride my bike to work this summer. It's a 15 minute bike ride to the beach from my house.

25-30 in my 1982 escort. Fit's my double bass, amp and two bass guitars. Best part was the price, free!

Let me get this straight.

You get to ride your bike to work...

...AND you work at the beach.

Yeah... that settles it... I hate you!!

Did I also fail to mention that part of my job is interacting with sexy asian chicks in bikinis?

(Of course, you're relax stylee, you's probably doin' jus' fine... )

Oh, and a) my Honda Element gets about 25+ in average driving, and b) my bike ride is about 20 minutes, no beach, but it don't suck at the end of the ride...

Methinks I'm in a pretty good position here as well. For the last several years of living in San Francisco and now New Orleans, I haven't needed a car, nor have I missed it. Now I own a tiny little Honda Civic that I get close to 40 MPG with some intelligent driving. The best part is the only time I have to drive is to gigs. Life is good.

LOL!

I love Steve. I love that when it comes to religion and politics (and obviously the economy, oil, the Easter Bunny, Santa, the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow, etc.) There's two possibilities: Steve's answer, which is obviously truth based solely on his conviction... And lies. ALL LIES!!!!

I just wish the company I work for would fully embrace tele-commuting! I could easily do my job from home and eliminate many miles of unnecessary driving per year.

It's a good satirical read. People with no sense of irony will not get it, though.

Entertaining read ... Yes. Full of holes and dramatization .... Yes. Predicting the future ... doubt it.... (President Obama was a nice touch though ).... Definitely Tongue and Cheek ( I was waiting for the Bill Murry 'Stripes' part about Dogs and Cats living together. )

Hello ... that's because there isn't anywhere to park!!!! If you try, you'll waste a gallon of gas just trying.

Thanks for the link ... that remindes me that I gotta fill my 17mpg Diesel with a 30 gallon tank... and drop about $0.80 more a gallon than gas.

You are correct sir. However, if I had to interact with said sexy asian chick, I would much rather her be in a bikini than fully dressed. But of course I would prefer her to be in nothing at all. What are we talking about again? Oh yeah Lakers, someone owes me beer.
