Has anyone seen this awesome new movie

This new low budget flick was directed by Katheryn Bigelow (Point Break), and is about an EOD (bomb disposal) team in Iraq circa '04...

I have yet to see a trailer or any PR on this film- and we rarely get any low budget flicks around here, but it just happened to open locally this week. I investigated the film and reviews (its getting a lot of excellent marks), and saw it yesterday. great movie!

Without giving too much away, Sgt Sanborn and Spc Eldridge are Eod support for the main Sgt who wears the bomb suit and calls the shots... when they get a new leader who 'has his own ways' of dealing w/ IEDs: Sanborn and Eldridge cant tell if Sgt James is a suicidal cowboy or a total pro... they just want to deal w/ him long enough to get through the 38 days or so that they have left on their tour of duty... highly recommended!

I absolutely loved 98% of this movie, don't want to say anything else about it, 'cause of the folks who haven't seen it yet, but it is almost certainly the best American film of 2009.

edit: I'm going to try something...

Spoiler Below. Highlight to read.
the last five minutes of the film were not nearly up to the bar set by the first 126

Excellent!

Definitely one to see on the big screen, if at all possible.

regarding the spoiler: It certainly didn't ruin the film for me, it would just make me rate it something like a 9.5/10 instead of 10/10

I've been wanting to see this. I love Jeremy Renner as an actor and am always looking forward to his next performance.

If thats the cat that was in Swat and 28 weeks later... he was great in this! The other two guys had roles in Million dollar baby and Jarhead... and there are a few cameos by fairly well known actors (Guy Pearce, Ralph Fiennes, David Morse)

Yep, he's the guy from SWAT and 28 Weeks. Did an episode of House, CSI, and has his own show now called the Unusuals. Great actor, very underrated.

Actually Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty were very good also. I could have sworn Geraghty was in Jarhead but it isnt listed in his bio. Mackie was the bad guy that Morgan Freeman beat up in the ring in Million dollar baby...

Also, this was directed by the woman who did Point Break.

And Blue Steel.

I liked it a lot... probably a 9.5 out of 10. I felt the film was really well acted, the cinematography was excellent with the documentary style floating in and out. I read that they filmed 200 hours on super 18mm cameras to string into this movie. Absolutely incredible.

Didn't Penny Marshall direct Point Break? Are you talking about the flick about the surfers from North LA county that rob banks?

Sorry, as interesting as this movie sounds, that movie was a pile of garbage.

Yup. Surfer presidents robbing banks. And yup, same director. This looks much more interesting. We'll see if it's any better.

I'm really psyched to see it. I haven't been able to get out of my dorm lately though. Is it anything at all like Jarhead?

Yeah, with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.

Luckily, Hurt Locker has absolutely nothing in common with that film (other than the director, of course).

I didn't see Jarhead, so I can't comment on any comparison between the two.

Only in that it takes place in Iraq- but different time periods. It has a different feel than Jarhead. To me that movie had a more surreal feel to it, where as HL has more of a documentary feel. Much more action to The hurt locker than Jarhead, imo.

I thought Jarhead was ok, but liked Hurt locker much more...
