I am paying the windy city a visit. I am attending a conference in Oak Brook and will only be there for two days and one night...I would like to check out some live music, preferably blues or jazz. It'll be Wednesday the 21st. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

So far I have perused the interweb a bit and found the Kingston Mines where Jimmy Burns and Maurice Vaughn are booked.

It will be my first visit to Chicago outside of the airports. I would hate to miss the chance to check out the vital music scene there.

Great!!! You have the Kingston Mines and directly across the street is Blues On Halsted, another great live Blues Venue.

I have no affiliation with either club.

I wish I had more time to check out the city...but my days are pretty much shot. Wednesday night is really my only free time so I am quite limited in what I will be able to see and do.

Yeah, I spotted that club too. They've got Big Ray and Chicago's Most Wanted Pro Jam that night. Does anyone know if that is an open jam?

The Pro jams are usually not open. From the ones I've been to, it's generally whoever happens to be playing in town and has a night off. While the highest concentration of good music in one place will probably be Blues/Kingston Mines, you can also hit up Buddy Guy's Legends in the South Loop, or if you want Jazz, the Green Mill on Lawrence & Broadway is one of the better places. On your way in, pick up a Reader, Onion, or Illinois Entertainer, they all have pretty good show & venue listings. The Reader or Onion can be found at most train stations & probably the airport of your choosing, the IE can be found at any music or record store.
