WARNING: PAYPAL/eBAY RANT!!!
I sold a bass on eBay and after waiting a week and a half for the guy to pay me got a lovely notice on my paypal account.
It seems that PayPal has changed their policy regarding eBay transactions. They now put a hold on funds that come in for certain items and will not release the funds until the item is delivered.
Basically, I would have to ship the bass and then wait for PayPal to get delivery confirmation before they release my money. When I asked the guy how long this would be he told me that they check the account "every once in a while" and I would just have to wait until they got around to it. I told the guy at PayPal to suck it and I refunded the money to the guy who bought my bass and told him to send a money order if he still wants the bass.
I am so pissed, I will never use PayPal and eBay together again.

People were scamming the "item not as described" option just for simply not liking the item they bought causing a headache for Paypal and Ebay.
Paypal is a GREAT service for anything outside of Ebay. I will never use it for Ebay again however. |

I have a perfect rating on eBay, and I have sold a bunch of stuff, but I haven't sold in a year. I just put something up this weekend, and I'm sure I'm going to be one of the people getting hosed for payment.

I refunded the $ and the guy wants to buy it outside of Ebay thru PP still. But, he won't pay the PP invoice until his refund clears his bank. |

But once I provided a shipping tracking # (via FedEx Ground) and the buyer sent positive feedback, PayPal released the funds.
Total wait from date of payment was six business days. The bass I sold was shipped the day after payment, two days transit, one day to get feedback and the payment released on day #6. Of course, you also have the "3-4 business days" for it to clear to your bank account.
I dislike that PayPal immediately extracts their fees, then holds your money for upwards of 2+ weeks on the Ebay system. Not a good place to sell if you need immediate cash in your hands ..... |

But what if the guy gigged it for 10 days and then requested a refund and just sat on your bass. As a seller thru Ebay now you have no recourse, it's all about the buyer. |

a buddy of mine sold an amp on ebay last week. the guy paid for it via paypal, and picked the amp up in person and paypal still wont release the fund even though the buyer said he was happy with it. |

I got lucky this time, not so sure I'd do it again though, at least not with the Ebay/PayPal consortium. The way things are now, they almost force you to go through PayPal and ship with either UPS or USPS ..... very inconvenient to use another method other than their pseudo-approved system .... |

I was going to sell several effects and items that I haven't used for some time, but I don't think I will be using the ebay/paypal combination anymore. If it comes down to ebay I will request money orders only.
said it has come down to this.

However you can get your cash faster by providing tracking and calling a supervisor at Paypal to say you want your money. I think they will give your money after 1 day of delivery confirmation.
They also will release it when you get positive feedback.
My biggest beef with this is they instated this new policy without any notification to the users. I've been a member since 2001 with 100% positive and most of my buying selling has been in the +1k range of basses and synths and other gear.
I think it's the way they can make them selves seem more liquid with cash during these trying times. Hey think of all the people under 100 feedbacks, and they can collect interest on all those users for several days, quite the little scam and money maker for them. It's stupid really but I guess you could just sell a ton of cheap stuff like guitard pics or socks or something to get your 100 feedbacks. The whole system benefits Ebay/Paypal and the buyer not the small time seller.
Good luck,
Dirk

Still sucks though. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
