For anyone who doesn't follow British football (the real game with a ROUND ball and a set of goalposts ) it was one of the biggest matches of the North here in Newcastle today- Newcastle against their rivals, Sunderland.
Anyway, the game finished just as I was heading to band around 3pm. Now my house is near to the stadium and a lot of fans use it as a shortcut to the ground.
Bearing in mind I had a bass on my back, this large group of football fans (drunk) decided to give me hassle and I ended up getting knocked around.
Once I got onto Haymarket (the main street in Newcastle) there were police everywhere- vans, dogs, cars, even the motorcycle.
After band I came back through Haymarket and the same thing happened again- several large gangs if fans were hanging around, drinking and being really noisy. I escaped this time.
Why do people have to be so over-the-top?

Can you remember any of them, or recognise any of them?
Sorry to hear about this fassa, you seem to be out of luck at the moment, at least look forward to the gig!

Nothing like a good day of rugby in my rugby club. Everyone's a laugh and there's no fighting what-so-ever. And since I play with them everyone seems to like ya
Seriously though, I just watched Green Street earlier(Americans or people not from the UK-ish area should see that film and it'll give a better understanding of a football mobs mentality) and although it's a great film, it's still a stupid mentality they have. The message of the whole film portray's that well...

Thats why there's no violence in rugby the dumbasses stick to a more simplistic game.

seriously though. I'm much more of a rugby fan myself. 3/5ths of my band play for the county, so we always end up having a throwabout, and if there's a big game going on at the local grounds I'll pop down.
Rugby fans definitely tend to be less hooliganistic than football fans

There are some minor scuffles amongst ice hockey fans sometimes, but soccer fans make the headlines few times per season even when it's a small sport around here.
