Lo and behold, I bought MS Office 2008 the day it was released. I get to the Apple store and am told it's not supposed to be released until noon, but the kid let me have it at 11:45 so I could make it to class.
Unfortunately, being a Mac user, I was in an unfortunate jam here at school, I got my Mac, then the school upgraded to Office 2007, which uses the new office formats, which aren't supported by anything for mac thus far. Then iWork '08 was doable, but as a business major, I need to know the ins and outs of Excel. Needless to say, I bought Office 2008 and am nothing but entirely impressed.
It looks great, works great, and I've yet to crash it. My only complaint is the lack of support for Exchange Servers on Entourage 2008 Student Edition... unfortunately, I'm all over campus, and I used to actually utilize this with Entourage 2004.
Anyway, thus far, my review for Office 2008...

Hope you enjoy Office 2008 as much as I've been enjoying Office 2007 under Windows. I love the new menu bar paradigm. |

Luckily, Office 2008 remained mostly menu based, and the ribbon is optional.

I find the ribbons to be a substantial usability improvement over the older menus.
They definitely take some getting used to though.

I can't remember the last thing I bought on the day it came out. Maybe Gran Turismo 4.

I understand there was a lot of R&D put into the making of this package, and that a lot of professionals will be able to increase productivity by using it, etc. But I have literally bought cars for less than that. You can buy an older version of pretty much the same programs for way less, especially used.
