If they can update their definitions, then please do so (if you haven't done so recently) and run a thorough scan and then report back. |

| | | | I had some malware that did the same thing, try out a bunch of different free malware removers. Most of them weren't able to find it. |

AVG: http://free.avg.com
Symantec (Norton): http://us.norton.com/security_response/definitions.jsp
McAfee: http://www.mcafee.com
If you can't access those, it strengthens the case for a malware infestation.
Another thing to look at is your Hosts file, under XP it lives at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc (there really is a folder called "etc")
Once you've found it, open it in Wordpad or Notepad & check it looks like this: Quote:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
| There should be no entries below the 127.0.0.1 localhost line. If there are, and they're targeting common anti-virus & anti-spyware sites, then you've got a nasty. Delete any entries below the "localhost" one, save the file and make it read only - this last step will help to counter any future unauthorised modification.
Have a look for Microsoft's own Malicious Software Removal tool (if need be via another computer & a USB stick), it's very good at rooting out stuff that other apps don't get.
Also try Superantispyware and Spybot Search & Destroy. Both are free & both very good.
Pete.
