I can't take the news anymore

I just read a bit of that article on CNN about a disabled woman being tortured. It makes me sad that we still live in a world where people are still being judged by certain things like that. We're supposed to be in the 21st century, but apparently some people think we're still living in another one. Honestly, the news just makes me upset. As well, even the local news here never has anything positive going on.

Sorry for the small rant, but it's just been irritating me for the past while. People shouldn't be judged by their religion, race or anything like that. We're all human.

We live in a messed up world, what can I say? People are judged by anything and everything and there's nothing you or I can do about that (on a large scale, at least). Quite frankly, the world has always operated like this and I highly doubt it is ever going to change.

Its life, life sucks, people suck. It doesnt matter what century we live in, you are always going to get A-holes.

Over here not too long ago, an elderly disabled person was injured and lying on the street, and some guy went up and urinated on him/her while his friends filmed it

Not only that, the "miracle" of electronic "communication" brings it closer to us in a way that we never could imagine even 10-20 years ago. We are drowning in information.

The media reports reality, maybe just one part of it. If you need the tv to tell you that good things happen to feel better about yourself, then I can't help you. A little common sense always helps.

The media doesn't always report reality...sometimes they make it up. Some people do what they do because there is a media that will report it.

A federal judge in Brasilia has dismissed murder charges against four young men accused of dousing an Indian leader with gasoline and setting him on fire, saying they did not intend to kill him.

The decision outraged human rights activists, who said it demonstrated the impunity enjoyed by the upper middle class and by politicians. One defendant is the son of a federal judge and another defendant's stepfather is a former judge of the Electoral Tribunal.

The victim, Galdino Jesus dos Santos, 44, of the Pataxo tribe in Southern Bahia, had traveled to Brasilia last April to join Brazil's largest demonstration ever in support of the rights of indigenous peoples.

What about the thousands of judgements passed worldwide today that were fair and even handed? I still cannot work out why anyone is basing their reality, or even their scope of the world, off a source as slanted as the media.

Only negative stories sells. Who'd like to read about neighbour girl and her voulantary job at the local old-people-home (haha can't remember the word)? Human kindness exsist, though the bad events sell better.

Correct. There are many good folks, doing many good things...things that would serve as a much better example to our kids...but the sensational is what sells.

We are all to blame. The traffic jam we sit in is caused by our own rubbernecking. Me? I never look. I don't wish to contribute to such behavior.

Because it is reality. It did happen. So did all the fair judgments. But you see, I don't really care about the fair judgments.

It's like a machine. I don't care whats going on with the machine unless it breaks. That's what the news is for. It tells me when society "breaks" and something wrong happens. I don't care about seeing positive things on the news, that's a complete waste of time. Unless you are a continuously depressed person, you probably see enough good things in your day to day to justify it not being spoon fed to you on the T.V.

I don't know why.

I see enough good things in my day to day life, I don't need to be reaffirmed by a cat riding a toy jetski in a wading pool or other nonsense.

Now, that doesn't mean I'm not a fan of local news journals. Local news journals (or good ones at least) should include both the positive and negative things going on in the area, because it is more focused than a regional, state, national, or international news.
