I did what any respecatable wuss would do....went and got my wife. I'm so ashamed, to whom do I turn in my man card?
This dude came over to fix our stove, it had a bad switch, but he said the convection motor was weak and needed changing.
I leave him alone to work, come back 10 minutes later and there's a motor on the table, I ask him if he was done, he says Yes, I just put the new one in. I pick up the "old" one, and its almost burning cold (It was -25 for a few days). Obviously this was the new one from his truck. I panicked and couldn't think of a thing to say so I got my wife to handle it. She made him sign a paper saying he changed the motor and kept the "old" one.
When she asked him why it was so cold, he didn't answer, just kept on saying Yes I changed it..I changed it.
So...is this conclusive evindence? I'm not 100% sure based on a cold part....what would you have done??

I'm not sure what I would do. I think that pushing the issue farther might've gotten testy, and not done you much good, but it could've been worth the try. Keep pushing the issue on why it's so cold, when obviously your house isn't cold. Otherwise, in your shoes right now, I'd be calling to try to speak with his boss and let him know what happened. |

Why would the old convection motor from your stove not be cold?

I never said it'd be warm or hot, but it's pretty easy to tell the different between a metal, electric motor that's been sitting inside a 60-70 degree house, and one that has been sitting in a 0-10 degree truck. |

I'm distrusting by nature, but if a stranger is in my house, I watch them closely. If a repairman comes to fix my stove, I won't breathe over their shoulder, or course, but I'll be in the room casually observing their work. |

I took my car in to get smogged at a place I had never been to.
My car has a weird starter or alternator problem that sometimes results in needing to wait a few minutes before it'll start.
It happened at the smog check place, and I wanted to ensure he wasnt going to try to sell me on this or that, so I explained to him the problem, and he said it was most likely one of the scenarios I provided (I was going off what my father told me, who knows much more about cars than I).
I stuck around watching the guy as he did this or that, and we joked a bit.
In the end, I passed my smog test, paid the guy and went on my way without hassle.
Reading reviews of the place, some people must have just sat there and got themselves screwed, as they had a few very bad reviews.

A serial number or some identifying mark that you can use to prove your case to the repairman's boss? Just the threat of legal action sometimes convinces businesses to give fees back |

I would RATHER handle it myself as I know that I could do it in a way where I can take care of the problem 100% without it going south fast. Put my wife on it? Dear lord.... she'll be standing there with one hand on her hip, pointing with the other:
"DAMMIT! YOU, Yip, yip yip yip, snarl, AND ANOTHER THING, yip, yip, yip.." I'd really pity the guy!
