I just re-installed/formatted my hard drive because there were errors that couldn't be repaired. I couldn't even back it up. There go a whole bunch of apps, pictures, and my music...

I actually got to partition my drive though (hello, Linux )

If it was just an OS error you could've put the drive in another computer and got all your files off.

I recently upgraded to Media Center and the **** thing formatted the wrong drive. I lost ~250gb of movies and was only able to recover 3

Actually, I had to look through the Software sticky to see what I'd forgotten about...it's a lot to remember sometimes.

Hehe, I do the same thing quite frequently. That sticky in OT is quite a valuable resource. A guy could almost turn that into a book and sell it.

i just starting using ubuntu at home...its the best one i've tried so far....pclinux is cool too...

get a separate hardrive just for your data, externals are definitely ideal IMO.
I have an external Tb drive, my **** ain't goin no where.
