Dude i got laid off a while back by a large, tanking, retailer's corporate office, it sucked but it got me out of LA and back to where I belong. I couldn't be happier!

Yeah, getting laid off usually isn't the fault of the person who gets laid off. Essentially "things are real slow right now" so that means there isn't enough work for me to do. It's pretty scary, it couldn't have happened at a worse time, we need to find a new apartment and with me not having a job, it's increasingly difficult.

It's been very... well, when it rains it pours for the past 2 years or so. I mean, I realize fully that I don't have the worst life in the world by any means, I just really wish something would go right.

On top of all this, I got scammed by some a-hab on eBay. I bought a new bass (before I knew I was laid off obviously... I put it on my credit card because... I have a steady job, I can handle it ) so I paid 330 bucks for a bass that doesn't work. The pickup is dead, and that certainly isn't the fault of the USPS.

I'm sorry Matt, it's a crappy thing to happen.

I've been made redundant twice, it's interesting though how things work out, it took my life on a more interesting path. I hope you find something else soon.

Matt check the "Dead" Bass pickup for a dead Battery. {active pickups?) . Sometimes a dead battery stops everything!
Good Luck with the job hunt and as others have said you'll look back and say if that hadn't happened; I wouldn't have this now. Easy to say, and painful sometimes to wait for but you will be O.K. lightningDolt

My nephew got laid of and found a great job from some internet job site like jobs.com or something. He got a job working for an airline service ground crew, gets full benefits and can fly for free anywhere the airline goes.

Sometimes you just might end up in a better place. The unknown is what sucks.

I love the new term for lay-offs in the corporate world... "Reduction in Force"

We've had 3 in the last 2 years. I've dodged the bullet each time *whew*

Good luck on your job search!

Passive pickups.

On this note, what do you guys think of this? The guy who sold me the bass, he claims EVERYTHING worked perfectly before he sent it off. He has since become a guitarist, and his bassist was using this bass right before he sold it. This is what he claims. Is it at all possible for this to be so poorly handled by the USPS that in a semi-hardshell case, well packaged with some padding here and there in a large cardboard box to have this happen?

The guy who sold me the bass thinks I'm trying to scam him (or so he claims) since he already gave me 25 bucks as a refund for repairs (I assumed a wire came loose, something I could fix for free, but I paid for a working bass dammit!!!!!!!), I discovered that the pickup didn't work. I sent him a message outing him as a liar, he replied by saying I was trying to run some kind of scam, I replied with something along the lines of, "It's obvious you ripped me off, so, congratulations, you've won." I went on to explain how he couldn't have ripped me off at a worse time.

I don't know, I just can't let this get to me. I'm no longer pinned down to this area. I have to move from this apartment soon, and I was going to move where my job was, now I'm open to different possibilities: I can move somewhere where rent is cheaper and find a job in that area. It's just going to be really shaky for the next few weeks.

Thanks for the replies.

Dumb question.. Did you check the input jack to make sure that it's not all corroded to hell?

Yep, I also have a thread about it in pickups
What pickups can I fit in this bass?

My friend, an amateur electrician went over it and determined it useless.

I was actually thinking... if it weren't for that pesky, "off" this would be a much more awesome for this guy.

I'll lose my precious precious virginity one of these days.

According to the NY Times, the job market in Iowa is very hot.
Relocation may be the thing. Personally, I wouldn't go for Des Moines
but people from there like it.

PA is not so great now. All the job growth has pretty much
gone South. Got any friends to stay with down there?

Fix that bass and you'll feel better! With all the help here, you should have it fixed in no time. I wouldn't bother with that other guy.
