I Got Shocked (mmm power outlets...)

Sign in to disble this ad
I was fixing my power adaptor for my computer and I had the case off, and it was all finished and everything, then after I plugged it in and tested it (with the case still off) I grabbed it to unplug the power cord, and I guess I touched the power and ground or something... everything tasted orange for a second and I screamed, and my hand got some tiny cuts on it... My hand still tingles and my tongue feels weird right now... I've got a little bit of a headache too...

I'm just glad I was able to let go and didn't die!!!

mmm orange...

The shock shorted his eyes to his tongue. Soon he'll be seeing bitter.

Do yourself a favour and get a check up. Might even get a free ECG out of it. Blew myself up with some ripped electrical cable there over the Summer, all grand afterwards but they were talking me thru the "what ifs" while I was watigin for ECG results, made me well happy I checked myself out afterwards. Can never be too safe.

I've electricuted myself a couple times. Once when I was five, and I plugged a cord into a socket while still wet. That hurt. Again when I was 12. That hurt. Once last year. That hurt.

I'm not a safe person.

I've been shocked more than two dozen times, I barely feel it now. The last time was over the weekend. I was rewiring an electrical outlet in a house that I'm remodeling. Since the house was purchased 3 months ago, this circuit had been dead. Naturally, as soon as I touch it, it's live.

The very first time I got shocked, I was 5 years old, and it was in church. A sign, perhaps?

I get shocked with my welder and anodizer all the time. I think it strengthens the heart and definately clears the mind A few days ago by 14 year old got zapped while welding. He through a hissy fit and went in the house. He can wipe out on a skateboard and take 50 paintball hits but a little lightnin' gets him upset

The worst shock I ever got was when I was 14. My friend tried to start his mini-bike as I was removing the spark plug wire. It was only 6V, but it hurt like hell.

The ignition system bumps the 6V up to several thousand to fire the plug. That makes for a nice zap

Well, that explains a lot, while at the same time exposing my complete ignorance of how an ignition system operates.

Capacitors. Same way SVT's are louder than hell......and the reason tazers knock people out using a 9v battery.

...and why you bleed your cathode ray tube before replacing it. Ahhh... it makes sense now. I guess I can't say I never learned anything on TB.

I once repaired a golf cart which, I found out a little late, had a melted motor which shorted the battery through the chassis. I'd try to unscrew some piece with a metal ratchet, my arm would go numb, I'd say 'what the hell', change arm, try again. That was not the winning solution.

haha it was a low-amped 48 volts, nothing to run away from. That's like, 1/6250th of a powerful tazer gun in terms of voltage. It makes your arm tingle.

I've licked 9V batteries before, no big deal, but how do you shock yourself with a welder? never done that... another bad one I have had, I licked the output of a 9V power adapter for my effects board... I guess that produces more ampage than a 9V Battery... my tongue tingled for a while
