Ok, well - I'm getting a Skirmish for my birthday. I just hasn't shown up yet. Hey Neil, anything I need to know about it?

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about....

COOL!!!

Give it some time to break in. You might want to soak the pivot with WD40 several times and blow it out with compressed air. Then re-lube it with your favorite oil.

The 630 is a hard use knife and should last forever.

The key with S30V steel is to sharpen it often with a leather strop and green polish or very fine ceramic rod. It holds it's edge VERY well, just often maintain that hair popping edge

This is a custom Skirmish that's out at the SHOT Show in Vegas right now. It was part of a knife/gun project with Alaska Gun and Pistolsmith, Ned Christiansen. I'll try to find a pic of the knife and gun together. My first attempt at wood checkering The checkered cocobolo matches the grips on the gun.

Thanks Neil, much appreciated. Can you give me a good link to learning to sharpen a good knife? I've got that Osborne design Benchmade, too, and don't want to screw it up...

Let me look around. I create the edges on my knives in my shop in a much different way than you would to resharpen one. But...........I finish all my edges, by hand with a strop.
You can make them or buy them but you need a good one to put the final edge on your knives.

A good strop is a beautiful thing. Mine looks something like this but longer. The one I use has the rough side of the leather up. I never use a smooth one as pictured here. Before each use, I rough up the leather with a scrap piece of steel and apply fresh green polish. I've used the same one for years.

Here is some strop info:

Actually I need one of those so I can gut the deliquents who broke into my 71 year old mother's house and trashed it (stole some stuff too) while she was in New Jersey visiting my niece. Happened Sunday night.

Nice knife!

It came today!! Dang this is a nice knife!

First impressions:

Wow - it's B I G!

And really pretty.

And I'm surprised at how comfortable in the hand it is, I didn't expect that.

It's stupid sharp - much more so than the Apparition I got a few months ago....

Me likey

What I like about them is for a big knife, they carry VERY easily in the pocket. You hardly know it's there. I'm going to order myself an all black one. I miss the one I had!!

Although a bit expensive, Lee Valley sells a nice strop/compound set:

Or you can just find some rough leather, buy the compound only and make one yourself for cheaper.

What series is that? Blue or black?

Awesome knife. I'd be afraid to use it.
