Gentlemen and Ladies, today is a sad day in my life. I get off work to find out that the keyboard to Alienware laptop has started going out. I see that it's going to be a long, slow, painful death for my pretty girl. Borealis is an honored warrior, always ready to jump into a fight online or LAN, or go solo into enemy territory. A two-time veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Borealis showed almost super-human tolerance of dirt, heat, and falling machine guns, but her beautiful blue luster shows the hard scars that combat leaves on all of, whether they be exterior or interior. Thus I write this note not to mourn a comrade who is traveling down the road of lonely old soldiers, but to encourage others to keep close their companions, flesh and electronics, and to remember them for the joy they bring to our lives during the short existence we all have have on this earth.
Borealis came into my life 3 weeks after my 21st Birthday, a gift to myself, and as I walk with her through the journey ahead, I will cherish the incredible times we had together.
Boy I tell you folks, Iraq doesn't want me to leave peacefully. Both my Xbox and PS3 have toasted themselves, the flatwounds on my Squier busted leaving me with the craptastic stockers, and now my cherished little super-laptop is on her way out. This deployment is officially on my **** List, forever.
Peace,
Greg

You're in the armed forces, you're deployed, and you're going to complain about how sand got in your electronics?
So not firefights, or people you know got killed, or you have a kid growing up without you? Just that some sand got in your electronics?

he's a volunteer to serve in the military and put himself in harm's way to serve his country. i'd say we can cut him a little slack when he cracks a joke.

I think losing touch with the rest of the world must be a big thing when you are posted away from all your friends and family!
OK there might be more immediate issues - but contact with the rest of the world is a lifeline, I should imagine...?
