Haha, because I am a dog breeder and trainer. I actually have 13 labs total. Those are all out of champion hunting dogs. I breed and train labs exclusively, these just all happen to be black.

Any advice to make my dog less of a jerk?

Specificity is needed on this one. How old, what does the dog do, breed, sex, etc?

Nice doggies!

However, if you paid the said person well to make a pro job with the pics, I'd say the last few aren't very professional to my eyes. You might want to have the guy to take a few more. Are there professional dog photographers or something around, or what do you breeders use?

15~ year old mutt. His parents were a black lab/husky and a shepherd/great dane. He's about 3 feet tall from the shoulder and weighs 140 pounds. If you haven't guessed it, he's a male.

Things he does wrong:
-Opens doors (he's figured out how to open all the bedroom doors in the house, and he lets himself inside sleep in people's beds)

-If you kick him out of your room, he'll open the door when you're sleeping, and pull the blankets off your bed and he'll make a nest on the floor.

-Hops over the fence (this one is a real puzzler to fix, since its a 6 foot stockade fence)

-Opens up the fridge and helps himself to the food

-He hits people (he was taught not to bite, so now he either whacks you with a paw or whips you with his leash)

-He tricks me, my house mates, and my girlfriends dog. My girlfriend has some tiny little thing and for some reason it hordes food. My dog is a fat ass and wants to eat it, so he'll run into the porch barking and she'll follow suit even though there is nothing there. This has been going on for awhile, but now he's figured out that if he barks longer, one of us will go get up and see who is there. Then he runs back to steal your space on the couch, or your food if you left it on the coffee table.

There's a couple of other things too, and most are just annoying. But the opening the fridge part runs up the electric, and I'm afraid he'll jump the fence and get hit by a car.

By and large though, he's a good dog, but he's old. He was kept in an apartment most of his life until I drove across country with him to live in NYC.

People think what he does is cute. I find it aggravating...

Well... I hate to tell you, but at that age there really isn't that much you can do. I have a 15 yr old lab who was one of th greatest and well trained dog I have ever seen, now she does whatever the hell she wants. I sorta let her run her own show because, at least in my eyes, she deserves it. I think the best thing is try to distract the dog as much as possible with walks and excercise, perhaps even rawhide chews or pig feet chews would be helpful too. Also, get a lock for your fridge.

GeneralElectric,

Your dog sounds like a badass.

My dog isn't really trained (Besides not going to the bathroom in the house) and I think I prefer it that way. I've been house sitting and dog sitting for a family friend who has a dog that is really well trained. He's really nice, but I prefer the deviousness and scheming of my untrained dog. It's really amazing to see the things he can figure out by himself. I love to see the mischief he can get into. There might be a breed difference to explain the difference, but my dog comes across as more of an individual that can think for itself...

Dogs are amazing creatures though... truly man's best friend!

Beautiful labs there. Nice, old style heads. Very expressive eyes.
Most important, they look pretty happy.

I have to add my favorite lab joke:

2 guys are both breeders of working labs, and they tend to be sort of competitive.

One has a new litter, but only 1 pup was born. But she's a GREAT looking pup, and shows all kinds of potential.
One day he takes her down to the lake to see what she'll do around water. Throws a stick in.
She runs down to the lake, and lightly runs ACROSS THE TOP OF THE WATER, grabs the stick, and runs across the water back. Doesn't even get wet.
Well, the guy can't believe what he just saw, figures there has to be a sandbar or something...
So he goes to another part of the lake, chucks another stick.
She does the same thing. He's amazed.

He calls his friend - "You gotta come meet me down at the lake. You gotta see this new pup of mine. You'll never top this!"

His friend shows up. He chucks the stick.
Sure enough, the lab pup runs across the surface of the lake and retrieves the stick, never getting wet.

His friend turns to him, and says
"You dragged me all the way out here to show me that your new dog CAN'T SWIM?!!"

Solo looks so dignified.

Lowend, do you get emotionally attached to all your dogs? I know I'd have a tough time not getting attached. I'm sure it must be hard to sell them...

I get more emotionally attached to not being broke or having to sell my house. It is always hard when you sell a dog that you have had for a long time, but I have enough dogs that I keep for breeding, hunting, etc. I have a 15, 8, 5 yr old females, Solo (1yr fem) and Rebel (1 yr male). So that is enough "keeper" dogs.

I have two black labs, both mutts. Best dogs in the world if you ask me. One is a five (I think) year old with a lot of collie in her. She starting to get grey on her chin. The other is a one year old male that must have some great dane in him, because he has these long skinny legs that can pick up speed damn fast, and a curly tail. Those legs with a labs body and energy create a seventy pound wreaking ball that does not believe that some things (trees, house, car) move.
