That sucks. Guess you didn't have a contract? What reason did they give?

Nope. No contract.

His reason was "It was slow, so we're shutting down early"

Ugh. That sucks. Is this a venue you gig frequently? Do you do well for them there? If so, I'd angle for a guarantee that at the very least compensates for this sorta thing. I know that doesn't sound realistic in this day and age, but hey...your band is not a charity. Kinda why I rarely gig without it in writing these days...at least the sideman gigs...

Sucks. It's been a while now since I have played out but I can remember calling everyone I knew trying to get a crowd so the owner would think we were awesome.

We've played there probably 6 times the past 3 months or so. And each time we've brought out a LOT of people. So it's not like we do them bad. They're definitely making money.

And yea, he promised us some other gigs, but he's really cheap. But, a gig is a gig, ya know?

Nothing like starting a lean new year, minus that phat check from a NYE gig that got cancelled.

Know what I hate? When you get paid 11% of the bands pay in a 5 piece band because youre 17.

I hate that.

Lets just say I made $65.. and thats only 11%.

I wouldn't walk from that project. I'd run. What are the other four people doing that justifies taking a larger cut?

Man, that stinks. It's a shame they've got you over a barrel like that, but that's the way it is in a lot of places.

On another note: I'm not a mod, but shouldn't this be in a different forum?

If I was you, I'd call a few places and see if my band can play on the same night.

Then, I'd go stick a ton of posters announcing the new place right on the cancelled gig's doors.

I totally fell ya there. Sometimes at my work they'll send people home early because business is slow.

take a crowbar to his kneecaps and demand his protection money.

At least he called you. I've played more than one gig before where afterwards the manager finds an excuse not to pay you.
