I hate eBay I hate Paypal. What other alternatives?

Sign in to disble this ad
With my own bad experiences as of late as an eBay seller + all of the recent threads about eBay's abysmal treatment of sellers and PayPal's ever-increasing fees and restrictions, I've been thinking about what my alternatives are. Does anyone have any experience selling and handling transactions with anything besides ebay and paypal?

I'm very interested in hearing about alternatives to either/both

I used to use Yahoo! Auctions back in the day. Thats where I got my first bass, actually. Though, the site has probably been assimilated into the eBayy machine...

There used to be little green pieces of paper with pictures of dead presidents on them. People would exchange them for all kinds of goods and services.

They used to deliver a bunch of paper to my house that had news n stuff in it. And sometimes people wrote down stuff they had for sale in it too.

Piling on:

There used to be these people who would roam neighborhoods, from domicile to domicile, requesting a chance to speak to me in regards to purchasing goods and services in exchange for federal currency.

Yeah yeah back in the day we advertised by painting on the cave wall, and we paid with colorful pebbles.

Good luck in memory land.

TB and bank transfers, far more reasonable though a bit more effort. Might be worth it for larger sales though, since in my experience banks charge flat rates for a given transfer amount rather than a percentage of it, though this practice probably varies wildly from bank to bank.

There used to be people who would go to actual social gatherings and trade their useful stuff for other kind of useful stuff, which could also be traded for yet other kinds of useful stuff.

quibids.com maybe. I'm not sure what forms of payment they accept though.

We have newspapers and magazines that are all classified ads.

I think you'll be pushed to find something that has the sheer number of things that ebay does!

Yeah that's the thing, a local advertiser rag is good if you want to find a boat trailer or an '87 Dodge van that "runs great", but not so useful if you want boutique/uncommon bass gear.

If you have a iphone or certain smart phones, you can get a app & hardware to process credit cards. It comes out cheaper then using pay pal.

I use CL and put in the add that I like cash but can accept CC's.

^ Yeah that's more what i was getting at. I like ebay and paypal for the ease of using them to buy and sell but if I can do Craiglist + a CC that would be ideal. I'm going to see if they have such a think for androids

Open up a business and get a card reader! I remember when my previous band was about to release an album I got it all set up on CDbaby, and I remember there being something about getting a cc machine so that people could buy merch with credit cards. The old school style, with the carbon copy paper slips!

edit - Nevermind, said person would have to be in your presence to make use of that...

The company "squareup" has been doing a big advertising push recently for their card reader and app. TV and billboards.
