Man I know how you feel. I go through insomia pretty regular. It seems like it runs in a three day cycle, I finally get exhausted from not sleeping good a couple days then I sleep good only to have the alarm go off. I exercise and lift weights, but that does not seem to help. When I go for my yearly physical Friday, I am thinking of asking my doctor for a sleep aid to get my sleep cycle back. I have tried Melatonin but it doesn't seem to help.

I get bouts of it. What the guy above me said works wonders. Go to the gym and lift some weights work your ass off so you fall asleep. Also, avoid all caffiene and all energy drinks and alcoholic beverages. I've found that even a little of any of those can really mess with sleep.

for some reason, the whole exercise thing never really worked for me. i'd end up being way too hyped to settle down for sleep.
i usually get about 2-3 hours of sleep a night. if i play bass or whatever for a while (like more than an hour), i can tire myself out to get about 4-5 hours of sleep. that's a lot for me.

go outside and work in the yard for a few hours, keep moving around most of the evening doing stuff to get you tired.

if I just sit on my ass all evening i have a hard time going to sleep ..

if i work a lot, then it's fine!

I used to have horrible insomnia and once had an attack that lasted one week, which dang near caused me to fail a class and get kicked out of school.

I have a fairly rigid sleep schedule but rarely have problems. I routinely take melatonin and also have an RX for Sonata, which I typically only use if something really sets me off. Typically I gotta be REALLY pissed for it to come to that.

Lifestyle wise, I work out a lot and I'm on a local Trek team, though still classified as an amateur racer. I eat reasonably well and don't drink heavily. I also make plenty of time to relax. I don't know if my routine is too overboard, but I rarely have the problems I've had.

I go through that from time to time. Ususlly when I got stuff on my mind. Also, when I have to get up early to travel I can never get to sleep. I worry to much about over sleeping and missing my flight. I don't take anything to sleep. If it is going on for a few day I will start walking around the block, but generally mine are not phyically induced so exercise does not put me to sleep.

I haven;t slept more than 3 hours on a given night for over 3 years.
Unless i get really drunk.
Best night of sleep i got was a few weeks ago when i smoked some pot, it was great.

I find i get the best sleep between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning.
